Bink.nu reports that the next version of Microsoft's Virtual Server product will NOT support 64-bit guest operating systems even if you run Virtual Server x64 edition on 64bit hardware!
Once again, it looks like VMware puts a stake in the ground and throws out the challenge to Microsoft. Not only is VMware giving away their product, VMware Server, but it will also support 64bit guest operating systems.
Microsoft's next release, now named V Next (expected sometime in the 2nd half of 2006), may have a lot of ground to catch up. The good news, V Next will support both Intel and AMD's virtualization CPU instruction set, allowing for faster, better performing, and less overhead virtualization.
Between Microsoft, VMware, Xen, and the other players entering or already in the market space - the more they one up the other, the better for us - the consumers.
