Just yesterday
my interviews with VMware and Intel both concluded that real-time DR was not possible with the current technologies the companies had to offer, but that hasn’t stopped third-party developer
Vizioncore.
According to an interview in Virtual Strategy Magazine, Vizioncore is producing an “out of guest” real-time replicator for VMware ESX Server called esxReplicator.
David Bieneman, Vizioncore’s CEO, said in the interview: “esxReplicator allows small to mid sized companies to facilitate real-time replication without the need for expensive, Tier One level, LUN replication.”
“esxReplicator will compress the image before sending it over the LAN to the destination ESX Server. The machine on the destination is offline. If you really wanted to get creative, it would be pretty easy to detect a source failure and power on the offline VM at the remote destination,” he said.
The software is currently in Alpha, moving into Beta, and will probably be in version 1.0 in April 2006.
