With all of the buzz going around about who is giving away what virtualization platform for free, we tend to think about Microsoft, VMware, and Xen when we discuss virtualization platforms. Not to be outdone, Win4Lin makes an announcement of its own as it announces support for AMD and Intel 64-bit processors for their Win4Lin Pro products.
One of the issues holding back Linux desktop adoption is the lack of application availability and compatibility with its Windows counterpart. To help Linux desktops gain interest in the business community, products like Win4Lin step up to offer that compatibility. And as 64-bit processor machines gain market share, IT decision makers will need to select products that can leverage the new processor performance and capacity that 64-bit technologies offer.
Win4Lin products enable users to take full advantage of their end-to-end Linux infrustructure. The products allow the user to run Windows 2000/XP applications as intended, without the need to patch the host operating system, and yet still run at near-native speed. All of this, without the need to rewrite the Windows application or worry about porting it. It runs the application as it was intended, in a "real" Windows environment.
