If you are one of the lucky people who has had the chance to work with VMware ESX 2.x, and now have the opportunity to migrate to a VI3 environment, I invite you to check out the latest guide on RTFM, written to help you quickly upgrade your skills. Mike Laverick has worked all week on updating the upgrade guide for VMware Infrastructure 3. He has invested a lot of time into this project and has a number of updated entries since his initial 1.0 release of the document. Here is the list of updated items:
- General changes based on GA Eval Release of ESX 3.x and VirtualCenter 2.x
- Added how to set-up Fedora Core 5 with iSCSI Target, and then allowing ESX access to the iSCSI LUN’s for use as VMFS or RAW LUN’s with RDM Files. The observant amongst you will notice slight differences in some of my screen dumps as the documentation for iSCSI was retro-fitted to this guide after most of it had been written.
- Resolved upgrade problems with VirtualCenter Database
- Added a the new method of exporting virtual disks with vmkfstools –i
- Added using the preupgrade.pl script which flags up potential problems prior to an in place upgrade
- Added using cupid.iso which shows cpu attributes such as Family,Stepping, SSE Version, Execute Denied/No Execute, and 64-bit support
- Corrected problems in Tar Ball Upgrade of ESX 3.x
- Added how to upgrade VMFS from the Service Console
