Quoting from press release:
Nirvana Storage, a division of General Atomics, today announced the release of Storage Resource Broker 2006 (SRB 2006). SRB is infrastructure middleware for enterprise data virtualization and management. Typical applications include data grids, digital libraries, document management, archives, portals, data integration, discovery, mining, organization and repository, metadata management, legacy system access, ILM, and SOA.
A major revision over the last version, SRB 2006 introduces bulk operations for vastly enhanced performance, Virtual Collections™ for taxonomy building and data organization, modular authentication mechanisms, and advanced ILM support. In addition, SRB 2006 has expanded its connectivity and compatibility beyond Windows and UNIX (including Linux and MacOS), and now provides support for WebDAV and Web Services.
Since 1995, SRB has been under continuous development and is now widely deployed at US government agencies, leading research institutions, and commercial sites. Its metadata capabilities fit well with fast-growing unstructured data such as images, audio, video, email, presentations and office documents. Over 1.4 petabytes of data is currently under SRB management.
According to Nirvana Storage, SRB can help resolve --
-- Discovery problems
-- Idle storage resources
-- Inaccessible legacy data
-- Data sharing incompatibility
-- Vendor lock-in and dependence
-- Under-utilization of unstructured data
-- Data scatter and loss with personnel change
"SRB 2006 is the latest release of the most powerful data grid implementation in the market," said Constantin Scheder, Director and Chief Architect of Nirvana Storage. "Its enhanced power will benefit our customers around the world."
