VMTechEd Cancelled

For those of you that were either thinking about attending or had already sent in money to attend VMTechEd, you might have already seen this, but I was recently forwarded this by a VMBlog reader and found it interesting... and I thought I would pass it along.

From the VMTechEd Web site:

It is with regret we are having to cancel the events due to VMware® not supporting the event as they agreed to do so. As a result, attendance went from 120+ to less than 20.

We can not speak highly enough of the Intel Corporation as they supported us thru thick and thin and tried to get VMware to play ball. Same with HP. VMware agreed to support the events and send out emails (or allow us to send out emails). However after our second event, they stopped us from sending out those emails. As a result, we went from 120+ to less than 20 people for the next few events; which was not enough to cover expenses.

We tried contacting management at VMware, but no one returned our calls or emails. VMTechEd had employees that have written several articles that were published, as well as founding the 1st VMware User Group and also being flown around the country to speak to hundreds of people at various events around the country. We also had an approval rating over 97% so we do not understand why VMware stopped supporting the events.

After spending the past 3 weeks exploring other options, VMTechEd is faced with seeking protection from creditors thru the court system. That is, bankruptcy as there are no assets nor money in the bank. We did not expect VMware to break the deal so this is unexpected.

Those that paid money to attend an event, check out VMACE is creating a series of video's and offers on-site training and education. Read more about this by clicking on video's and on-site training.

For those that pre-paid for an event, you will get a credit of $425.00 on VMACE's web site for purchasing video's or on-site consulting. NOTE: this is not the same company as VMTechEd.

VMTechEd, LLC.
