VMware is looking for a product manager to lead its virtual appliance product.
Responsibilities Include:
The Product Manager will be responsible for defining and delivering a set of value-added features/products around virtual appliances. The candidate will need to do an extensive analysis of virtual appliances within both the partner and customer communities to determine and drive a product strategy that will enable VMware to revolutionize how enterprise software is developed, packaged, distributed and deployed as virtual appliances. The position plays a critical role in extending VMware’s thought leadership position in the virtualization industry.
The role requires a broad skill set that leverages experiences in marketing strategy, product development, and technology partnerships to lead a product and solution development effort from inception to launch. This includes writing a business plan, driving the product requirements definition process, working with the engineering team to manage the product development process, and playing a leadership role in the go-to-market and launch efforts. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills and the ability to distill the key issues from complex problems.
Sample first 180 days expectations:
- Conduct extensive discussions with partners and customers to understand how virtual appliances are developed, packaged, deployed and managed in production environments.
- Based on that analysis, establish and evangelize a product strategy for a set of value-added features. Validate offering with customers.
- Own the business plan for the product and getting approval from executive staff to proceed with the strategy.
- Develop an MRD and PRD by working closely with engineering. This should result in an executable engineering plan and schedule.
- Engage with ISVs to analyze partnership and integration options.
Requirements:
- At least 4-6 years of product management experience at an enterprise software company
- Product management background in systems management software preferred
- Prior experience in software development is highly desired
- BS in Computer Science or related technical degree; MBA desirable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a pre-requisite
- Must be able to demonstrate both a passion for marketing and a strong aptitude for business strategy
