MindTouch Unveils World's First Commercial Wiki Virtual Appliance
MindTouch, the most comprehensive vendor of business wiki solutions, today unveiled MindTouch Deki, the world's first business wiki implemented as a virtual appliance. MindTouch Deki is a business software that installs in 15 minutes, giving different workgroups in organizations the ability to share information and collaborate with colleagues almost instantly and securely on their own network.

MindTouch Deki is a complete pre-installed, pre-configured application and operating system that runs on any Windows or Linux machine. Scalable from small workgroups to large enterprises, it runs atop VMplayer, a free virtual appliance player from VMware. This innovative product significantly cuts the time, expenses and hassles associated with traditional enterprise software products that require dedicated IT staff for installation, configuration, support and maintenance throughout the ownership cycle. It also enables content portability whereby users can move both the wiki application and its content from machine to machine, even to removable storage devices up to 100 Gigabytes. "We have researched and evaluated various wikis for over a year and found MindTouch Deki to have the best combination of easy installation, rich functionality and superior operational support. It saves our IT team a significant amount of time to deploy and manage, doesn't require investments to train support personnel and has practically no learning curve for our user community," said Joe Stevenson, technology architect for SEI, a leading global provider of outsourced asset management, investment processing and operations solutions in Oaks, PA. "MindTouch Deki is what a wiki should be - easy, fast and useful. We plan on adopting the product across the company moving forward."

MindTouch Deki enables users to immediately create, edit, share, search and store documents, emails, files and images securely behind a company's firewall. It is suitable for a wide range of applications within workgroups and enterprises across a variety of industries. With an intuitive interface that looks and works like a word processor, MindTouch Deki offers a WYSIWYG rich-text editing experience in a web browser familiar to knowledge workers. Among the many features of the product, two stand out:

— Microsoft Outlook Connector - Users can convert the contents of email and attachments into wiki pages with one click. It eliminates the toggling between the two applications, which beaks up the workflow and makes the process cumbersome. With the Outlook Connector, a user can work in MindTouch Deki and pull all the necessary emails in one place, convert them to wiki pages in one click and share the contents instantly. This is a powerful tool since more than 70% of collaborative information is contained in email.

— XML page integration - Every wiki page in MindTouch Deki is stored in XML format, which enables content to be easily integrated into existing web services, knowledge management, web publishing or any standards-based enterprise application.

Other key features of MindTouch Deki include:

— One-click page creation, editing and linking

— Built-in indexing and searching of all pages and attachments

— Automatic version control and change notification

— Multi-level user permissions down to page-level

— Hierarchical pages

— Customizable watch lists and RSS feeds

"MindTouch Deki is the perfect blend of rich features, ease-of-use and quick installation that makes enterprise collaboration productive and efficient," said Ken Liu, CEO of MindTouch. "It combines the best aspects of software, appliance and hosted wikis into a perfect wiki solution for businesses."

MindTouch Deki is free for the first five users and is designed for on-demand scalability; customers simply purchase more user licenses online when they are ready. The free license does not include software updates and fixes, support or certain advanced features such as Outlook Connector. A full license (for five users) starts at $995.
