VMware just released an updated I/O Compatibility Guide for VMware ESX Server 3.x.  

VMware ESX Server software delivers high performance I/O for PCI-based SCSI, RAID, Fibre Channel, and Ethernet controllers. To achieve high performance, these devices are accessed directly through device drivers in the ESX Server host, and not through a host operating system, as with VMware Workstation and VMware Server products.

Changes since the last edition of this guide include:

·          Added “EMC Storage IO Devices,” on page 6 to ”Storage I/O Device and Model Information,” section.

·          Added support for LSI MegaRAID 8344ELP. See “LSILogic Storage IO Devices,” on page 10.

·          Added support for Sun LSI3801E, LSI3801X. See “Sun Storage IO Devices,” on page 10.
