Egenera Inc., the data center virtualization company, today announced that the Egenera® BladeFrame® system has been fully certified to run SAP® applications with the Solaris™ 10 operating system (OS) on both Intel® Xeon® and AMD® processors. The Egenera system is the first and only server platform on the market to achieve full SAP certification with the Solaris 10 OS for both x64 servers based on Intel Xeon and AMD processors. Egenera is an SAP Global Technology Partner, a distinction reserved for leading technology companies with significant market share in their industries.
Concurrently, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Egenera's exclusive OEM partner in EMEA, announced broad certification for its PRIMERGY BladeFrame® powered by Egenera® product family (see related news release).
Running SAP applications on the Egenera BladeFrame system, with its unique Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture, dramatically reduces complexity in the data center and maximizes the availability, manageability, scalability and performance of the complete SAP infrastructure. Enabling the rapid, flexible deployment of new services makes the BladeFrame system the ideal platform for enterprise Service Oriented Architecture (eSOA) implementations -- whether on Windows or Solaris platforms.
"We are proud to have Egenera as one of the first SAP partners being certified for SAP with the Solaris 10 OS on x64 platforms," said Juan Carlos Soto, vice president, market development for Sun Microsystems. "We anticipate that the combination of Egenera's market leading virtualized infrastructure, together with the Solaris 10 OS, will provide SAP customers with resilient virtualization on top of a widely-deployed and proven operating system. We expect that our joint customers will embrace the combination, and cut costs and complexity."
"Egenera and Fujitsu Siemens are the first Intel OEM partners to provide certified Intel servers for SAP applications on Solaris 10 x64," said Jake Smith, enterprise marketing manager, Server Products Group, Intel. "The combination of the Egenera PAN architecture and Intel's record breaking performance gives customers the right platform for supporting their critical SAP applications."
"Success for our customers means choice, flexibility and proven, trusted solutions. Fully certifying the BladeFrame with SAP applications on the Solaris 10 OS is an important part of our promise to customers to provide the most rigorously tested and broadly applicable solution available," said Susan Davis, vice president at Egenera. "Given the clear value that Egenera brings to enterprise SAP deployments, we continue to see rapid adoption of the Egenera system for SAP applications. We expect today's announcement to further that trend."
In concert with Fujitsu Siemens, the SAP applications certification with the Solaris 10 OS on x64 platforms were performed by Sun's SAP certification partner, *xware, at the Egenera SAP Competence Center in Walldorf, Germany.
