Virtual Iron Software (
www.virtualiron.com), a provider of enterprise-class software for server virtualization and virtual infrastructure management, today announced that it has been named as a finalist for the 4th Annual MITX Technology Awards. The MITX What's Next Forum & Technology Awards recognize innovative technologies developed in the New England area, as well as the individuals and organizations responsible for driving these advancements. The Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange (MITX) is the region's premier association for thought leadership, technology trends, business networking and professional training and development.
Virtual Iron provides production-ready server virtualization and virtual infrastructure management capabilities for unmodified Windows and Linux at one-fifth the cost of comparable alternatives. The platform combines an open source hypervisor with advanced virtualization services and sophisticated policy-based management. Virtual Iron enables users to take full advantage of new hardware-assisted virtualization (Intel VT and AMD-V) on servers to deliver near native performance. Unlike other virtualization solutions, Virtual Iron requires no installation or management of software on physical servers, further simplifying installation and data center operations.
"We are very pleased that our vision for bringing enterprise-class virtualization and management capabilities to the mainstream market has been recognized by the Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange," said Mike Grandinetti, chief marketing officer for Virtual Iron. "This is another validation point for Virtual Iron's innovative approach and our ability to drive broad adoption of server virtualization."
"The regional economy is showing real strength, and it's in no small part due to the resurgence in the technology sector and the innovation that fuels so much of the growth," said Kiki Mills, executive director of MITX. "The MITX Technology Awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognize the companies that are leading the way and to celebrate their accomplishments and that of the entire technology community."
Virtual Iron will be recognized with the other finalists in the category of IT Operations at an awards ceremony attended by the region's top technology and business professionals. Winners will be announced at the ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston on Tuesday, June 5, 2007. This year's keynote speaker and special honoree is Tim Berners-Lee, Director of the World Wide Web Consortium.
The ceremony is preceded by the What's Next Forum. The topic, What's Next for The Device Web - Emerging User Experiences, will be a forward-looking discussion about the exciting new world that is coming the consumer's way, which will provide them with a range of new, very rich experiences.
The MITX What's Next Forum & Technology Awards are sponsored by Backbone Media, Lewis PR, Microsoft, Oracle, and Technology Review.
