Apple said it earned $818 million, or 92 cents a share, compared to $472 million, or 54 cents, a year earlier. The company's revenue rose almost 24% to $5.41 billion from last year's $4.37 billion. Part of that amazing growth can be attributed to its rise in Mac computer sales.
Apple said that it has sold 1.76 million Macintosh computers during the quarter, reaching an all-time high for Mac sales in one quarter, and up 33% from a year ago. Mac sales included 1.13 million MacBook and MacBook Pro notebook PCs and 634,000 desktop Macs.
Switching to Intel chipsets and having products like BootCamp, Parallels Desktop for Mac and VMware Fusion will only help Mac hardware sales continue to climb the chart. With the chip switch and these great boot or virtualization applications, Mac users can enjoy the best of both worlds - Mac OS X and Windows.
