FalconStor Software, Inc., a market leader in disk-based data protection solutions, today announced it has successfully tested all FalconStor
® VirtualTape Library (VTL) Storage Solutions with Microsoft
® System Center Data Protection Manager 2007. FalconStor will present its Virtual Tape Library solutions at the Microsoft TechEd IT Forum at Booth # D15 in Barcelona, Spain, November 12-16, 2007.
IT storage planners and architects can now seamlessly combine Data Protection Manager 2007 with new and existing heterogeneous environments by integrating the FalconStor VTL features with multiple backup applications that share tape library resources. Achieving accelerated backup/restore tape operation process speeds of up to 1500MB per second in enterprise class environments, FalconStor VTL provides a single repository for all virtual tapes between multiple Data Protection Manager 2007 servers within any centralized environment or a central environment with remote/branch offices.
FalconStor VTL optimizes key Data Protection Manager 2007 tape archive functions. FalconStor VTL:
- Improves reliability of tape archive backup and restore success rates by eliminating media error and robotic failures
- Extends data retention capacity through efficient enterprise wide virtual tape de-duplication
- Enables tape replication between data centers in heterogeneous environments for disaster prevention/recovery
- Enables Data Protection Manager 2007 to share enterprise class libraries (e.g., Sun ACSLS or IBM 3494) with other backup applications in the data center.
All FalconStor VTL data protection solutions are compatible with today’s leading tape drive technologies, tape libraries, and backup application software, including EMC/Legato, HP, IBM/Tivoli, Microsoft, Sun StorageTek, Symantec/Veritas, Quantum, and others.
“Building on Microsoft’s Universal Distributed Storage strategy, Microsoft has announced System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 as part of its storage management portfolio. FalconStor VTL Solutions support Data Protection Manager 2007 and enable seamless and simple management of virtual tape assets in heterogeneous customer environments,” said Eric Berg, director of product management for System Center at Microsoft Corp. “Tape virtualization is a natural extension to Data Protection Manager 2007 as customers continue to integrate their existing investments of tape drives and tape libraries with virtual tape management and physical tape archiving.”
”Our customers want high performance data protection solutions that interoperate with ease,” said Bernie Wu, vice president of business development for FalconStor. “By providing optimized tape archive services for Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2007, FalconStor VTL solutions allow IT managers to easily consolidate all backup/recovery application tape functions to virtual tapes and include the added benefit of enterprise-wide virtual tape de-duplication and interoperability with a wide range of enterprise class tape libraries. FalconStor is committed to working with Microsoft and its channel partners in providing complete data protection solutions to Microsoft Windows customers.”
“The FalconStor VTL is a virtual management bridge between backup applications and physical tape storage repositories,” said Bob Stegner, Senior Vice President, Marketing for North America at SYNNEX Corporation. “With small, medium, and enterprise businesses moving towards virtualized server and desktop environments, Microsoft’s Data Protection Manager 2007 deployed with FalconStor VTL Storage Solutions is an easy next step for IT departments that want to benefit from both solutions. Virtual tape libraries with enterprise wide virtual tape de-duplication are one of the most practical ways to manage a centralized virtual tape repository.”
