Quest Software, Inc. today announced that it plans to change the way companies backup and recover their data with the new beta release of LiteSpeed
TM 5.0. Part of Quest
’s comprehensive database portfolio, LiteSpeed is the industry leading
backup and recovery solution that allows database administrators (DBAs) to optimize their processes, minimize down time and mitigate risk, while maintaining complete control over their environment. Douglas Chrystall, inventor of LiteSpeed, will be selecting an exclusive group of product testers to participate in the beta program.

Some key new features planned for version 5.0 include:

Policy-Based Management enables DBAs to more easily manage their growing environments by organizing databases into logical groups managed by a centralized set of policies

Virtualized Backups allows DBAs to leverage virtualized environments for rapid recovery of critical systems by backing up a physical database to a virtual image
- Multi-Platform Backup and Recovery offers support for different operating systems and non-SQL Server database platforms in addition to SQL Server 7, 2000, 2005, 2008
