Embotics, the Virtual Machine (VM) Lifecycle Management Company, today introduced
“Controlling VM Sprawl,
” a new white paper and study that discusses the best practices for maintaining control of virtualized infrastructure. Authored by leading virtualization expert Anil Desai, the educational white paper examines the sources of VM sprawl, the dangers inherent in it and ways to prevent VM sprawl.
While organizations and IT staff continue seeing the benefits of server virtualization, the challenge of controlling virtual infrastructures is quickly rising as a top management priority. “Controlling VM Sprawl” looks at sources of VM sprawl, investigates the oversights that quickly lead to security, manageability, compliance and other related issues, and recommends best practices for preventing a VM sprawl condition. The white paper is available at http://www.embotics.com/resource.html, and Desai and Embotics will speak on this topic in a series of webinars in early 2008.
Anil Desai is an experienced data center manager, having managed environments that support thousands of virtual machines. He specializes in evaluating, implementing and managing IT solutions and is the author of several books and articles focusing on the Microsoft Windows Server platform, virtualization and IT management. Desai draws on his past experiences as a data center manager to outline a series of best practices aimed at maintaining control of virtual machines in the enterprise.
“VM Sprawl is one of the most significant challenges for organizations that have either deployed virtualization technology or that are planning to do so,” said Desai. “My white paper with Embotics provides data center managers with best practices and useful methods that will ensure that their entire virtual environment is properly configured and managed.”
“Our goal in providing this study is to give visibility to an issue we believe needs emphasis in enterprises today,” said David M. Lynch, vice president of marketing at Embotics. “Data center managers and administrators are aware of the importance of controlling VM sprawl, and have been asking for best practices in dealing with these issues. Embotics turned to industry expert and experienced data center manager Anil Desai for his views in this critical area.”
