Continuous Computing
®, global provider of integrated systems and services that enable telecom equipment manufacturers to rapidly deploy Next Generation Networks (NGN), today announced its FlexCompute
™ ATCA-XE50 processor blade, which enables best-in-class speed, performance, and energy efficiency through the Intel Xeon Processor. As an AdvancedTCA (ATCA) blade using Intel dual quad-core processors, the XE50 provides telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) with a high performance, scalable solution with enhanced memory support. This announcement extends the company
’s FlexTCA
™ family of 10GbE systems optimized for applications including deep packet inspection (DPI), security, IPTV, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), and 3G wireless core.
“Working with Intel to develop this new product allowed us to create a truly innovative solution for our customers,” said Mike Dagenais, president and chief executive officer of Continuous Computing. “By incorporating two Intel quad-core Xeon processors, we are able to offer our customers a highly-customized compute blade with breakthrough processing power. When coupled with the rest of our ATCA platforms and extensive library of Trillium protocol software, the XE50 and the FlexTCA family of 10GbE systems provide the fastest path from application development to deployment revenue.”
The FlexCompute ATCA-XE50 is available in both single and dual processor configurations, offering the scalability needed for 1GbE and 10GbE systems requiring mid- and high-processing capabilities, respectively, as well as the flexibility and compatibility to support multiple operating systems and connectivity options. By integrating the XE50, TEMs gain the flexibility to customize 10GbE systems, which power the delivery of video and data content for a number of high-performance, scalable applications. The XE50 offers an increased memory capacity of 48GB of DDR2 synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM), six times as much as the average memory storage of competing blades available on the market today. XE50 also supports 32MB of persistent static random access memory (SRAM).
By supporting Intel Virtualization Technology, a set of processor enhancements that improve traditional software-based virtualization solutions, the XE50 has the capability to migrate diverse operating systems and applications, including 64-bit, to virtual environments on the same hardware. The XE50 also offers an Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) slot for multiple network connectivity options. Additional USB, serial console, and Gigabit Ethernet ports are available through rear transition modules (RTMs) for greater flexibility and ease of use.
The superior 10GbE compute capabilities of the XE50 complement Continuous Computing’s industry-leading FlexPacket™ ATCA-PP50 and FlexCore™ ATCA-FM40 10GbE Layer 3+ switch – boasting 24 ports including 8 uplinks using the new cost-effective SFP+ modules. The PP50, FM40, and XE50 have been designed to deliver optimum system performance as the foundation of a FlexTCA system. First announced in October 2007, FlexTCA systems from Continuous Computing feature an unprecedented level of integration, consisting not only of best-in-class ATCA hardware platforms but also world-renowned Trillium software, Service Availability Forum (SAF)-compliant high availability middleware, and more. FlexTCA fully-integrated systems relieve customers of the need to devote internal resources to platform integration and help accelerate TEMs’ time-to-money while reducing project risk and complexity.
