Pano Logic announced a new software release for its desktop virtualization solution. By leveraging existing virtual infrastructure and integrating hardware at the desktop with software in the data center, Pano Logic provides a complete and easy-to-use virtual desktop solution. The new release, Pano Virtual Desktop Solution (VDS) 2.0, can be deployed in new environments and network topologies, providing support for wide area network (WAN) deployments, dual monitor requirements, and offering certified support for wireless bridges and USB devices. Also, as a further extension of the partnership between Pano Logic and VMware, Pano VDS 2.0 fully integrates support for VMware Virtual Desktop Manager (VDM), giving users deployment flexibility.
“Desktop virtualization solutions that leverage existing server virtualization infrastructure represent an opportunity for IT organizations to extend the value of their investments. Hosting virtual desktops on servers enables IT departments to eliminate the PC for portions of their userbase, thereby significantly reducing help desk support costs,” said Michael Rose, an IDC research analyst covering virtualization software. “We are seeing these virtual desktops increasingly being made accessible to users on the edge of the network, and as such the new WAN support available in Pano's VDS 2.0 can help provide a more realistic and flexible environment for many users leveraging Pano Logic's devices.”
“Pano VDS allows us to further leverage our investment in VMware ESX, and accelerate the adoption of VDI to replace our traditional desktop environment,” said Scott Hargus, Information Systems technical services manager for BroMenn Healthcare System. “Because of the tight integration between Pano Logic and VMware we are able to quickly and easily provision a broad range of virtualized clinical desktops based on the nursing units or end users specific needs. Unique to the Pano device is the Pano button which empowers our users to perform troubleshooting steps, such as resetting the virtual machine, without having to contact the help desk. These capabilities, along with the very low power consumption of the Pano device, have resulted in a lower TCO than the thin clients and traditional desktop solutions we’ve used in the past.”
Pano VDS 2.0 offers a variety of features including:
- Optimization for wide area network (WAN) deployments
- Support for VMware Virtual Desktop Manager (VDM)
- Dual-monitor support
- Certification for wireless bridge and USB devices
In addition, Pano VDS 2.0 offers improved install and remote DVM management which allows for easy updating of the Pano Desktop Service.
“Pano VDS enables us to leverage a desktop virtualization solution that extends our existing deployment of VMware ESX, and allows us to support a broader range of users,” said Michael Parish, director, Emerging Technology and Innovation for SanDisk Corporation. “With its simple, rapid deployment capabilities, streamlined remote management and increased user accessibility, Pano Logic has raised the bar for desktop virtualization solutions which will help us save critical time and money by eliminating the need to buy new PCs and decreasing support.”
“This release advances our commitment to providing a desktop virtualization solution for every enterprise network environment and deployment model,” said Aly Orady, co-founder and CTO of Pano Logic. “As corporate configurations and enterprise networks evolve, the virtual desktop infrastructure must meet an increasing number of needs and deployment scenarios. Pano Logic offers users the easiest desktop virtualization solution to install and centrally and remotely manage for LAN and now WAN deployments.”
