Lieberman Software Provides First Privileged Account Password Management Solution for the Hyper-V Environment
Responding to the growth of virtualization deployments in the enterprise, and the need for applications that support this environment, Lieberman Software announced that Random Password Manager is now certified for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. It is the first privileged password management solution to achieve this distinction.

By supporting Hyper-V, Random Password Manager can automatically update every local administrator password on virtual Windows servers in the enterprise. The products entire feature set - including delegated firecall password recovery workflows, hardware encryption capability, FIPS 140-2 certification, and logging of all password operations - are now fully functional in virtual environments.

According to Gartner research, shared account password management tools will be used by more than 50% of large enterprises by year end 2010.1 This estimate, coupled with the financial benefits of virtualization technology, demonstrates the market growth potential for solutions that secure privileged account passwords in the virtual environment.

Server virtualization technology lowers IT costs and improves the manageability of the network server environment. It combines the workloads of multiple servers onto one system, significantly increasing processing power in the network while reducing the amount of physical servers that must be maintained. Hyper-V is an appropriate virtualization option for Windows-centric infrastructures due to its integration with the x64-bit version of the Windows Server 2008 operating system.

Our enterprise customers are leveraging virtualization technology for its benefits of reducing costs, freeing up data center space, and simplifying overall IT management operations, said Chris Stoneff, product manager of Lieberman Software. Lieberman Software shares this vision, but we also recognize the imperative of securing virtual systems. Random Password Manager does this by frequently updating, securely storing, and auditing recovery of the privileged account passwords on virtual machines.

Random Password Manager is the third Lieberman Software application certified for Hyper-V. These certifications allow the company to offer a full portfolio of security management solutions for the Windows server virtualization environment.

About Random Password Manager

Random Password Manager continuously randomizes local administrator and root account passwords on all systems in the enterprise, and enables temporary recovery of current passwords via an audited web interface. The product ensures that each system maintains unique privileged account credentials, preventing one compromised firecall password from providing unrestricted peer-level network access.

Passwords are secured using AES-256 encryption in a SQL Server database, SSL encryption of data to the browser, and hardware-based encryption validated to FIPS 140-2 levels 2 and 3. Random Password Manager supports Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/Server 2008, Linux and UNIX servers and workstations; SQL Server and Oracle databases; and Cisco hardware devices. In addition to its Hyper-V certification, Random Password Manager is certified for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista, and is RSA SecurID Ready.
