Information technology company IBM (NYSE:IBM) and Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, announced on Friday (31 October) that the school has used IBM's low-power Systems x servers to reduce energy consumption.
The use of IBM's servers is expected to cut Punahou's data-centre power consumption in half by 2016.
Punahou has replaced its legacy servers with high-performance, low-power System x servers from IBM, running VMWare virtualisation software.
Working with IBM and IBM Business Partner, Commercial Data Systems (CDS), Punahou has implemented a new data centre solution, centering on IBM System x3850 M2 servers running VMware virtualisation software. This new solution is expected to provide the performance, space consolidation and help Punahou School to achieve its goal of reducing overall campus energy consumption by 25% by 2010 and by 50% by 2016. CDS will be providing Punahou School's team with the necessary training to run the IBM systems and achieve their power and efficiency goals.
