WANdisco, a leading provider of infrastructure software for replication, scalability & high availability, today announced the availability of the Subversion MultiSite Software Appliance. This virtual software appliance provides immediate, real and tangible benefits to organizations by minimizing ongoing maintenance and administration costs and dramatically reducing deployment time. A globally distributed IT organization can literally be up and running in minutes. Just download, turn it on, and it works.
The appliance includes Subversion, Apache, a fully supported version of Linux and WANdisco's award-winning multi-site replication technology that allows distributed developers to collaborate at LAN-speed over a WAN, instead of working in silos. In addition, the appliance has no reliance on hardware or software configurations and can run in any target virtualization environment including VMware ESX, Citrix XenServer, and Windows with Hyper-V.
Ongoing maintenance and support are also dramatically simplified with automatic updates for all appliance components, including Subversion, Apache, Linux and WANdisco. There are no more one-off manual upgrades and patches. An entire multi-site implementation can be monitored and administered from a single location. This solution combines the zero-latency deployment offered by hosted Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for Subversion, with all of the flexibility, control and security of traditional behind the firewall implementations.
WANdisco has partnered with rPath, the pioneer in the virtual appliance approach for application distribution and management, to automate the creation, configuration, management and maintenance of application images for virtualized and cloud computing environments.
“Virtualization and cloud computing are important topics in IT organizations today because they promise a quick way to cut server costs without hurting the service provided to the business,” said Ian Finley vice president of AMR Research. “However, moving to a virtualized environment is not simple, especially with packaged applications, because few are enabled for these environments today. WANdisco is making it easier for its customers to leverage virtualization and cut server costs. It’s also showing IT organizations how they can use rPath to do the same with their custom applications.”
“Customers told us that they wanted a product that was easy to install, maintain and use,” said David Richards, president and CEO of WANdisco. “We listened and that was the driver for us to invest heavily in the creation of this new product.”
Billy Marshall, rPath founder and chief strategy officer, said, “WANdisco is the perfect example of an innovative ISV that understands the value of virtualization and the cloud, leveraging these technologies to deliver increased value to their customers by enabling them to do more with less. In an uncertain economic period, the ability to stretch resources and contain costs is critical.”
