VirtenSys, Ltd, the leader in delivering innovative, PCI Express
®-based I/O Virtualization (IOV) Switches for data centers, announced that it has expanded its portfolio of supported I/O Adapters to include the Network Interface Cards (NICs) based on the Intel
® 82598 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) Controller. The VirtenSys IOV Switches now virtualize the NICs based on the Intel
® 82598 10 Gigabit Ethernet Controller among multiple physical servers without any changes being made to the servers, operating system, NIC cards, or device drivers. Intel’s 10GE NIC cards are used in servers and storage systems from leading OEMs and are deployed worldwide in enterprise data centers across multiple vertical segments.
VirtenSys I/O Virtualization Switches improve I/O utilization to greater than 80 percent, enhance throughput, and reduce I/O cost and power consumption by more than 60 percent. The products also enhance and simplify data center management by dynamically allocating, sharing, and migrating I/O resources among servers without physical re-configuration or human intervention, dramatically reducing Operational Expense (OpEx).
“We are very delighted to make this additional capability available to our server and storage OEM customers,” said Ahmet Houssein, president and CEO of VirtenSys. “Intel’s 10Gb Ethernet technology has been very successful in the market. We plan on supporting both the current generation of 10GE NICs as well as Intel’s future generation of Ethernet controllers and NICs.”
“Intel’s 10GE NIC cards are ideal for use in systems across multiple vertical segments,” said Darryl Rakestraw, director of customer marketing, Intel LAN Access Division. “The Intel technology enables solutions such as the VirtenSys I/O Virtualization Switches to provide server customers with options for more I/O flexibility in their rack server deployments.”
VirtenSys is continuing to expand its portfolio of supported interfaces and I/O Adapters and will soon launch its I/O Virtualization Switches that support Ethernet, Fibre Channel and SAS/SATA I/O adapters. The products will be available in both rack-mount and blade server form-factors.
