VMware Workstation 6.5 Named Best Desktop Virtualization in InfoWorld Technology of the Year Awards
VMware, Inc. (NYSE:VMW), the global leader in virtualization solutions from the desktop to the datacenter, today announced that InfoWorld has named VMware Workstation 6.5 “Best Desktop Virtualization” in its Technology of the Year awards. Acknowledging the past year’s highest scoring products from its product reviews, InfoWorld Test Center editors selected VMware Workstation for its performance and innovation, noting “with each new version, VMware Workstation seemingly perfects the traditional desktop virtualization paradigm, only to raise the bar 12 to 18 months later. Workstation is truly a world-class product and a pace-setter for the entire industry.”

“Since 1999, VMware Workstation has fundamentally improved the way people work,” said Jocelyn Goldfein, vice president and general manager of VMware’s Desktop Business Unit. “We constantly push the product to new heights because we are inspired by the needs of our more than 2.1 million customers, from home users to system administrators to professional software developers. The wide audience of technical users also makes VMware Workstation the perfect proving ground for our latest technology breakthroughs. We are thrilled to receive this award that acknowledges our drive to continuously raise the bar.”

VMware Workstation was first released in 1999 as a way to run Windows applications on Linux. Today, VMware Workstation 6.5 is the gold standard virtualization tool for technical professionals and is the most advanced and robust desktop virtualization solution for creating and running multiple operating systems locally on a single physical PC. With unparalleled advanced features like VM Record and Replay and Integrated Virtual Debugger for Visual Studio, Workstation provides software developers a revolutionary debugging experience with the benefit of deterministic replay and simulation of reverse execution. The latest version also brings accelerated 3-D graphics to virtual machines, and the “Unity” feature enables users to seamlessly run applications from virtual machines on host machines.
