Virtual Computer Inc.
, the company redefining PC lifecycle management through virtualization, today announced its NxTop Now! program and NxTop 1.0, the first client-side virtualization technology that supports central management and distributed execution. On the heels of a successful beta program, NxTop Now! delivers price incentives and enhanced support for early adopters of the NxTop 1.0 product release. All beta customers are invited to participate in NxTop Now! and new customers can request an invitation at http://www.virtualcomputer.com/purchase
“Within the Gartner Magic Quadrant for PC Life Cycle Configuration Management, we predicted that PC lifecycle management would be transformed by virtualization technology in 2009,” said Ronni Coville, VP distinguished analyst, Gartner. “The PC lifecycle configuration management tool market is mature, but virtualization, mobility, and the convergence of security and operations are affecting customer buying decisions. Desktop managers are now recognizing the value of how virtualization technologies can compliment, supplement or augment PC configuration management tools, especially for supporting mobile users and other roaming scenarios.”
Demand for NxTop has been overwhelming. NxTop Now! responds to this demand and delivers a controlled release to interested organizations as Virtual Computer builds scalability into its support infrastructure. Building on the success of its product advisory council (PAC) and beta program, Virtual Computer is pre-qualifying organizations as early-adopters of NxTop 1.0 to assure a smooth implementation and offer pricing incentives to qualified organizations that aim to simplify PC management.
“NxTop has been under development since November 2007,” said Dan McCall, president and CEO of Virtual Computer. “I could not be more excited about the work our engineering team has done to turn our vision for the next generation desktop into a reality that you can purchase today. This is the beginning of a new era in personal computing.”
Unlike point desktop virtualization solutions, NxTop includes everything a desktop manager needs to regain control of its managed PCs. The NxTop™ platform consists of two components:
- NxTop Engine: A “bare metal” hypervisor and management control framework capable of running and servicing virtual desktops directly on PC hardware.
- NxTop Center: A feature-rich management console used by IT administrators to create, manage, and maintain virtual desktop environments centrally.
NxTop delivers provisioning, publishing and patching of the base operating system on a one-to-many basis; as well as user data and profile backup and recovery. The PC management solution also delivers key security features including cryptographic disk and remote kill. IT managers can also enable and disable specific classes of USB devices, specify back-up schedules, or even specify the lifetime of a NxTop via an expiration policy.
