InstallFree and IP Services Join to Deliver Software Industry's First Audit-Compliant Virtual Applications in the External Cloud
InstallFree, Inc., developer of platform application virtualization solutions for enterprise desktop environments, today announced its technology partnership with IP Services, provider of managed services for ISVs via Software as a Service (SaaS). IP Services will use InstallFree to encrypt and virtualize its hosted software applications for delivery in the external cloud through its SAS 70 certified service. The news marks the software industry’s first SaaS delivery of virtual applications in the external cloud, meeting stringent audit and compliance standards. Now ISVs have compliance capabilities to advance hosted service strategies, allowing cost effective scaling to speed the time to market for on-demand applications.

IP Services is the first hosting service to take advantage of InstallFree’s technology that encrypts as it encapsulates, setting control at the application layer, instead of the UserRights layer. InstallFree’s unique approach builds in important advantages for ISVs.

  • Data encrypted in transport and on the local device to ensure that the applications are protected for audit control.
  • “User Mode ONLY” execution enables IT to lock down the desktop without locking out configuration control for end users, greatly reducing support desk calls.
  • Built in Digital Rights Management (DRM) prevents unauthorized usage or copying of virtual, agentless applications from one endpoint to the next.
  • Universal Client experience regardless of hardware medium lets ISVs migrate from WinXP to Win7 at a fraction of the cost. Their end customers can move from system to system without the management complexity and overhead of application support, such as determining the OS, proper patch levels, etc.
  • Decreased Time to Value for ISVs results from reduced time to test, retest, package and repackage applications based on InstallFree’s patented approach to modularize individual application components and dynamically bind them at run time.

“Control, compliance and cost savings has been InstallFree’s vision for application virtualization and delivery technology. We are delighted to be at the frontier in partnership with IP Services and make the vision reality,” said Yori Gabay, CEO of InstallFree. “We developed our hybrid approach to virtualization, linking User and machine with the application access authority, in order to make management both easier, and audit compliant. InstallFree and IP Services are demonstrating that managed services can help companies quickly scale and stay compliant, while operating securely both in and outside of the Cloud.”

SAS70 outsourcers providing Internet services with audit and control need to be able to serve the SMB customer and also scale for the enterprise. They must set up the charge back models for ISVs customers, and help them adhere to applicable regulatory compliance issues. SAS70 is the guide for setting access control for audit compliance, such as HIPAA for healthcare, privacy protection for banking and personal finance, and child identity protection for educational software.

“IP Services is excited to join with InstallFree and extend leadership in the emerging area of application virtualization and SaaS as a service enablement. Together we offer host-protected software delivery, combined with visible operations for audit compliance,” said Scott Alldridge, CEO at IP Services. “The incredible way InstallFree uses legacy applications, encrypting as it encapsulates, lets us take a software to market for a lot less cost. The customer doesn’t have to redevelop to deploy and scale virtual applications. We’re using virtualization technology to manage with IT best practices in a Cloud Computing mode that is both compliant and cost effective.”

Scott Alldridge is a founding member and President of the IT Process Institute, an organization that provides IT Standards Research, Prescriptive Guidance, and Benchmarking. The IT Process Institute has published “The Visible Ops Handbook: Starting ITIL in 4 Practical Steps” and the Visible Ops Security and many other white papers and studies.
