OpenSource World, Next Generation Data Center and CloudWorld Announce Keynote Speakers
Debra Bowen, California’s Secretary of State will keynote the 2009 OpenSource World, Next Generation Data Center (NGDC) and CloudWorld conferences, IDG World Expo announced today.

Debra Bowen became only the sixth woman in California’s history elected to a statewide constitutional office when she was elected as California’s Secretary of State in November 2006. Ms. Bowen is a pioneer in open government reform, election integrity and personal privacy rights, and has been recognized in the open source industry for her knowledge of and familiarity with the benefits of open source software.

In addition to Ms. Bowen’s keynote, the events will include a keynote conference panel featuring four of the nation’s leading cloud computing strategists. Jeffrey M. Kaplan, conference chairman for CloudWorld and managing director at THINKstrategies, Inc., will moderate the discussion, entitled “Assessing the Real Market Opportunities and Obstacles for Making Cloud Computing Mainstream.” The roundtable session will feature a discussion and debate on the steps the industry must take to make the promise of cloud computing a reality. The keynote panelists will include the following.

  • Sam Charrington, vice president of product management and marketing, Appistry, Inc.
  • James Urquhart, market manager, cloud computing and virtualization, Cisco Systems, Inc.
  • Joe Weinman, strategy and business development, AT&T Business Solutions

“Open source and cloud computing are rapidly emerging technologies that are reshaping enterprise IT,” said Mary Dolaher, chief executive officer of IDG World Expo, owner of the events and a leading tradeshow and event producer. “We are pleased to announce these two keynote sessions that will give attendees a comprehensive look into the important technology trends that are changing the way organizations develop, deploy and manage their computing resources and business applications.”

OpenSource World (formerly LinuxWorld®), NGDC and CloudWorld are scheduled to take place August 12-13, 2009, at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco. The three events are co-located to give attendees the most comprehensive view into today’s rapidly evolving and tightly related enterprise technologies, which are dramatically increasing data center efficiency and reducing operating costs.
