Streamcore Addresses Application Performance Challenges Linked to Desktop Virtualization at Remote Offices
Streamcore, the global provider of visibility and dynamic performance control solutions to manage application and voice over IP (VoIP) delivery over the WAN, today announced that its solutions are an enabling technology for enterprises undertaking desktop virtualization at remote offices. Streamcore solutions help enterprises overcome poor application performance of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) traffic, such as Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and Citrix ICA protocol, exchanged between virtual machines in the data center and clients at remote sites.

The composition of VDI traffic changes dynamically over time alternating between highly interactive traffic such keyboard strokes and screen refreshes and non-interactive traffic such as printing and file copying. Streamcore’s patented ABBA engine analyzes the behavior of sessions and automatically prioritizes all interactive traffic over other types of traffic to guarantee the best possible user experience.

“Streamcore’s ability to automatically prioritize VDI traffic based on its behavior is unique in the market and is highly important to the success of any desktop virtualization efforts,” said Frédéric Hediard, vice president of product management at Streamcore. “Not only do we manage the VDI traffic and other flows that are all competing for bandwidth, we prioritize VDI sessions as well. As a result, VDI traffic performs well and the full benefits of desktop virtualization can be realized.”

Desktop virtualization creates a greater need for WAN traffic visibility, one of Streamcore’s core competencies. Given that VDI traffic is highly susceptible to poor application performance, Streamcore’s visibility is needed to manage VDI traffic and swiftly troubleshoot application performance issues.

In addition to providing granular visibility, Streamcore provides real-time application response measurements of VDI traffic. These measurements help IT staffs to continually monitor how VDI traffic is performing and to proactively control traffic to ensure that end users are having a positive network experience. Streamcore’s reporting can be provisioned to automatically highlight which remote branch offices are suffering from the worst performance and to identify the root cause.
