RingCube Joins Sun Partner Advantage Program to Deliver Managed Virtual Workspaces with Sun VDI
RingCube Technologies, the leading provider of managed virtual workspaces, today announced interoperability between RingCube vDesk and Sun's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution. The collaboration between RingCube and Sun would help customers lower the costs of deploying personalized desktops through automated provisioning, and add flexibility through offline and synchronization between the virtualized desktop and portable storage devices or physical PC or notebook.

"Sun Ray technology, which features Sun's high-performance Appliance Link Protocol, has been an attractive choice for organizations with global operations looking to deploy VDI over a wide area network," says Doug Dooley, VP of Product Management & Marketing at RingCube. "In conjunction with RingCube vDesk, our combined solution provides enterprise customers with mobile workforces the benefits of personalized desktops and offline mobility in their VDI deployments with lower operational and capital expenditures."

RingCube vDesk Overview

RingCube vDesk is a high-performance enterprise desktop virtualization solution that delivers anytime, anywhere access to a personalized desktop environment complete with applications, data and settings. vDesk’s unique Virtual Workspace technology separates the user’s desktop environment (applications, data and settings) from the operating system and encapsulates it into a secure container. vDesk has the flexibility to deliver virtual desktops to users wherever they are through a variety of deployment options, including:

  • VDI – vDesk is stored in the data center and accessed remotely using VDI
  • PC – vDesk is stored and runs locally on the user’s PC
  • Drive – vDesk is stored on portable drives such as USB
  • Network – vDesk is stored on a network file share and run locally

"Enabling our partner community to interoperate with Sun's desktop virtualization portfolio gives our customers choice when designing and deploying their virtual desktop environments," says Jennifer Horton, Director, Desktop Virtualization at Sun Microsystems. “By leveraging RingCube's vDesk master workspace concept to manage user profiles rather than modifying the underlying virtual machine templates, our customers can provide users with personalization without introducing unnecessary complexity or costs. Together with RingCube, Sun VDI Software is a powerful tool for customers that are looking to increase online and offline user productivity.”

Synchronization and Offline Mobility with SUN VDI and vDesk

vDesk MobileSync enables users to synchronize their vDesk Workspace between the virtual desktop and a portable storage device or notebook computer. A user can check out their vDesk workspace to an offline device and check in their vDesk workspace through the VDI once back online. vDesk MobileSync ensures that the user's environment is consistent both in the offline and online scenario. The vDesk MobileSync feature ensures the same desktop experience for the users working in the office and for users working remotely.
