The Planet to Participate in Cloud Panel at GigaOM's Structure 2010

The Planet, the global hosting leader, today announced it is among industry sponsors for the third annual Structure conference, which will be held June 23-24 in San Francisco.

Carl Meadows, The Planet’s senior product manager for cloud services, will participate in a conference panel on June 24 titled, “Different Cloud, Different Purposes: A Taxonomy of Clouds.” The panel begins at 4:35 p.m. and will feature executives from Yahoo!, Verizon, StrataScale and NetApp.

“Although ‘the cloud’ moniker has become pervasive in the industry, we hear consistent feedback from our customers about their confusion around its best-use cases,” said Meadows. “We invite participants to stop by our conference table and join discussions on different types of clouds and what business problems they can – and can’t – solve. We’ll also discuss what to look for in a cloud solution, from types of virtualization platforms and storage backends to considerations on resource dedication and network infrastructure.”

Structure 2010 brings together industry leaders to discuss the future of cloud computing and make predictions as to where the industry is headed. Discussions will center around which technologies are emerging as standards, and conference speakers will discuss best practices for implementing cloud infrastructures in the enterprise.
