Wyse and Citrix Jointly Drive Cloud Client Computing Into the Mainstream Leading Organizations Rewarded With Improved Security, Management, User Experience and TCO

Today at Citrix Synergy Berlin 2010, Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, spotlighted continuing customer momentum on Wyse cloud client computing in conjunction with Citrix software solutions. As more organizations adopt virtual desktops, Wyse is reporting major Wyse Xenith customer implementations where this next-generation zero client technology is transforming the user experience and economics of desktop computing for office-based workers. Wyse is currently appearing in Foyer 3, Booth no. 204.

“Customers are setting the pace on what is possible when you combine our technology solutions together,” said Mark Jordan, Vice President, EMEA at Wyse. “The speed of adoption is stunning with virtual desktops proliferating across a wide array of enterprises and public bodies. Wyse Xenith raises the bar of what’s possible, demolishing the last barriers to high performance virtual computing without the PC limitations. This makes these Wyse Xenith implementations as fascinating as customers set out to push the boundaries of what’s possible with cloud client computing.”

“Desktop virtualization is enabling the adoption of virtual work styles by giving enterprises the ability to deliver virtual desktops and applications to users wherever they are located and on whatever device they choose: PC, Mac, Smartphone, tablet or thin client. Our customers are seeing the clear benefits of using Citrix XenDesktop with Wyse thin client computing products, as part of a holistic virtual computing strategy, because they are able to reduce the cost of managing endpoints in their own infrastructure while still giving users choices and flexibility,” said Sumit Dhawan, vice president of product marketing, XenDesktop product group at Citrix.

Drawing on combined Wyse and Citrix solutions, organizations worldwide are increasingly adopting virtual desktops as a mainstream technology with the goal of increasing security, simplifying desktop management and offering users greater business agility.

Hiscox, the leading international specialist insurer, is expanding and enhancing its virtualized IT infrastructure with support from Wyse and Citrix. New plans to extend the virtualized Xen environment throughout the entire enterprise confirm the technology as a mainstream IT platform. Notably the driving force for this strategic decision is how the combined Wyse and Citrix solution is proven as delivering the agility, security and low TCO vital for a dynamic global insurance business.

Andrew Turner, CIO, Hiscox said: “Our virtualized environment is critical to how we run our business internationally. Speed to market is vital for us and, thanks to Wyse and Citrix; IT sets the pace rather than plays catch-up on our entry into new countries and regions. Now, as the technology has advanced, we’re embarking on a project to get the whole business onto a virtualized environment and thus realise even greater savings in operational costs, energy efficiency and flexibility.”

2010 is the year when joint Wyse and Citrix customers have started to embrace the breakthrough in virtual desktop solutions. Building on both companies' commitment to delivering the best possible user experience, Wyse launched Wyse Xenith, the industry's first next-generation zero client with Citrix HDX™ technology, in May 2010. This virtually eliminates the management and security issues associated with traditional client devices, while ensuring a high-definition HDX user experience, further lowering the barriers for mainstream adoption of desktop virtualization.

Hampton School, a British independent school for boys established over 450 years ago, is implementing an ambitious virtual desktop strategy that exploits the energy efficiency and zero management benefits of the latest Wyse Xenith zero clients.

Ian Trevena, Network Manager at Hampton School, said: “We’re one of the UK’s few carbon neutral schools and so the low power rating and heat output of the Wyse Xeniths is critical for us. With the first phase now live, there is a marked difference in how much cooler the classrooms have become, while the zero clients are so easy to support that our maintenance headaches with PCs are a thing of the past.”

At Astbury Marsden, an international recruitment firm located in London, a managed virtual desktop service from IT provider Vesk uses Wyse Xenith zero clients and XenDesktop to deliver a Windows desktop environment. The new virtual desktop service is saving the company nearly £600 per machine and using 95% less energy compared with the old desktop PC strategy. The virtual desktop strategy is enabling the company to move more quickly into new regions including Hong Kong.

Bill Lazarus, Vice President, Technology & Architecture and Shaun Land, Director of IT Customer Care at St. Joseph Health System in California, echo their success after implementing a Wyse and Citrix solution. “Having been a strategic partner for almost a decade now, Wyse has consistently gone above and beyond to support St. Joseph Health System,” said Lazarus. “Before implementing Wyse thin clients, client device management was difficult. Wyse helps make our desktop environment a much healthier community.”

Land continued, “By the end of 2010 we’ll have close to 6,000 Wyse devices and are using both Wyse Device Manager and Wyse ThinOS. WDM and ThinOS-based thin clients make it easier to operate and secure our healthcare IT environments and also integrate seamlessly with Citrix. Between our very strict compliance requirements and high standards for patient care, Wyse device management and support is easy and efficient with fewer desktop FTE’s needed to support them. PCs are more complicated to manage and secure, and take almost twice the resources to support. Wyse understands the difference between privacy and security, and provides solutions that help us on both fronts.”

Austrian retailer Libro Handelsgesellschaft m.b.H. relies on centralized deployment of applications and data and utilises the compact and fast Wyse C10LE thin clients as well as the new powerful Wyse R10L thin clients to access a Citrix XenDesktop environment. Over 2000 devices will be finally deployed.

Udo Urbantschitsch, Business Unit Manager Technology at Libro said: “Wyse thin clients convinced us completely – not just because of their performance and functionality. Thanks to the ultra-compact firmware Wyse ThinOS, the devices start up in seconds and don’t even need management software.”
