Desktone Selected as Featured Speaker on Cloud-hosted Virtual Desktops at Virtualization Deep Dive Day 2011

Desktone, Inc., the pioneer of Desktops as a Service, today announced that it has been selected as a featured presenter at the Virtualization Group-Boston’s annual Virtualization Deep Dive Day on March 11, 2011. Danny Allan, Desktone’s Chief Solution Architect, will compare virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and cloud-hosted virtual desktops and discuss the impacts these approaches have on IT operations and business productivity.

“VDI may mean hosted desktops, but it doesn’t mean those virtual desktops can be effectively hosted in the cloud,” said Allan. “VDI and cloud-hosted desktops are very different. For instance, VDI requires a lot of upfront CAPEX, is complex to implement and manage, results in vendor-lock in, and doesn’t scale easily. Conversely, a true cloud-hosted desktop is easy to manage, requires no upfront investment and is extremely flexible—so companies get up and running quickly with no CAPEX, and can easily adapt to changing needs. I’m excited to speak with this group of IT professionals about the two technology approaches and their implications.”

Desktone is a pioneer in cloud-hosted desktops. The Desktone Cloud is the industry’s only purpose-built product for delivering virtual desktops in the cloud. The Desktone Cloud lets customers quickly benefit from virtual desktops at a cost of $30/desktop/month—which is significantly lower than those typically associated with VDI and traditional desktop environments. By moving virtual desktops to the cloud instead of implementing an internally deployed and managed data center, companies can realize all the promised benefits of virtual desktops—centralized management, improved data security and simplified deployment— without the exorbitant cost or limitations of VDI.

The Virtualization Group–Boston is an organization of IT professionals that fosters an exchange of knowledge about all aspects of virtualization, green technology and cloud computing. Virtualization Deep Dive Day 2011 brings together speakers from around the industry to lead in-depth discussions about virtualization technologies, including desktop, server, application, storage, and cloud computing. It takes place on March 11, 2011 at Regis College Alumni Hall in Weston, Massachusetts.
