Emulex Corporation today announced the availability of
OneCommand Vision 2.0,
an intelligent application that provides proactive I/O management
within data center and cloud environments. OneCommand Vision gives IT
administrators the ability to maximize I/O performance, availability,
and utilization by monitoring and analyzing end-to-end I/O latency,
various protocol events and other critical performance metrics. The new
release of OneCommand Vision 2.0 delivers increased scalability,
usability improvements, custom alerting, and added operating system (OS)
and hypervisor support.
"OneCommand Vision manages and proactively solves
the proverbial 'blind spot' in the data center - I/O," said Shaun Walsh,
vice president of marketing, Emulex. "By viewing I/O from the
application's perspective, OneCommand Vision fills a critical hole in
performance and availability management not covered by traditional
resource management tools.
"OneCommand Vision is designed for heterogeneous
network environments and emerging cloud infrastructures, by simplifying
the management of complex I/O environments and enabling visibility into
end-to-end I/O performance. Emulex OneCommand Vision's non-intrusive
software architecture and broad OS support and interoperability with
Emulex and non-Emulex adapters provides immediate I/O performance and
availability data for baselining, tracking, alerting and troubleshooting
complex performance problems.
Emulex OneCommand Vision 2.0 includes the following features and benefits:
- "Application View" of Performance Management:
OneCommand Vision exposes disruptions unseen by solutions that simply
monitor downstream storage infrastructure components by providing
end-to-end performance management that covers 100% of the I/O Path,
identifying, for example, mis-configured multipathing software that
results in unused, yet expensive, redundant paths. As the
infrastructure complexity increases between applications and storage
media, this "Application View" of performance availability becomes
critical in verifying proper performance and detecting issues that are
impacting business.
- I/O SLA Management: OneCommand Vision
establishes real-world performance baseline and availability metrics
that ensure the specific needs of each application are met after the
storage infrastructure is migrated. This is especially critical when
migrating storage to a public or private cloud.
- Intelligent Reports and Alerts:
OneCommand Vision includes five feature modules for I/O management,
including: I/O Latency (to collect, trend, analyze and present
end-to-end latency information specific to each I/O path), I/O Profile
(to collect, map and present I/O characteristics specific to each I/O
path), I/O Analyzer (to collect and present protocol event information,
including SCSI and transport information), Intelligent Alerts (to detect
and resolve issues), and I/O Reports (to provide a data center-wide
view of pertinent I/O network information). OneCommand Vision's
utilization reports identify costly imbalances in I/O across the storage
infrastructure. Reclaiming as little as two percent of the storage
infrastructure can save over $200,000 per year for a mid-sized SAN deployment.
- Analytics and Correlation Engine (ACE):
Leveraging Emulex ACE, users can detect performance issues and relate
them back to infrastructure hot spots and protocol errors by combining
historical I/O availability and performance data, exposing potential
oversubscription in the server, network and storage domains.
- Broad OS Support:
Emulex OneCommand Vision supports a variety of additional OSes with the
2.0 release, including Microsoft Windows Hyper-V, Oracle Enterprise
Linux (OEL), Solaris 10, and VMware ESX v4.1 and 5.0.
Emulex OneCommand Vision also includes I/O Performance and Availability Service (IPAS),
which provides users with predictable application performance and
availability, higher infrastructure utilization and lower operational
costs. IPAS Baseline or IPAS Advanced professional services provide
customers with an assessment of their existing production environment,
and advice on how to resolve any existing I/O performance issues at the
outset.
A base-level OneCommand Vision installation starts
as low as $28,000 (MSRP), with several economical scale-out options
including site and enterprise licenses. Emulex OneCommand Vision 2.0 is
being demonstrated at Storage Networking World Europe in Frankfurt,
Germany, this week in booth #10. For more information, please visit the OneCommand Vision landing page.
