Parasoft Corporation announced a new release of Parasoft Virtualize: service virtualization software that helps development and QA teams create and access any environment needed to develop or test an application. Through service virtualization (Application-Behavior Virtualization), it enables development and QA teams to capture the necessary system behavior of dependent applications and provision virtual assets in order to execute complex test scenarios. This dramatically reduces the costs associated with configuring & managing test environments.
The latest release introduces a host of new capabilities designed to give the development & QA team unprecedented control over the test environment—particularly third-party components and other dependent applications that traditionally impede testing efforts. For example, after a simple one-time change to the application under test, the developer or tester can use a simple graphical interface to control:
- When to start and stop recording interactions with the dependent application
- How the "virtual asset" represents and extends the captured interactions
- To which endpoint traffic is routed (e.g., to an actual or virtual asset)
- The performance of the virtual asset
- Data sets used to parameterize virtual asset behavior
Simplifying test environment provisioning, Parasoft enables developers and testers to rapidly stand up the specific environment instances they need to access. From a graphical system map, they can direct which asset version (real or virtual), performance profiles, and data sources to apply in a given instance. They can also rapidly define and provision test environments with all necessary permutations of dependent application behaviors. This allows them to start testing immediately—without waiting for Ops/DevOps.
Wayne Ariola, VP of Strategy for Parasoft, explained, "So many of our clients are overwhelmed by the escalating number and complexity of environments required for thorough testing. This is intensified by the fact that these systems typically involve 3rd party applications, mainframes, or other dependent applications that are simply not feasible to access for testing. With Virtualize, we're trying to help these organizations provide QA, performance test engineers, and developers direct, simple, and rapid access to the very specific combinations and configurations that they need."
