Tegile Systems, a pioneer in primary storage de-duplication in
virtualized server and desktop environments, today announced the release
of an Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) Lab Validation Report on their
Zebi Arrays. The report highlights Zebi’s use of its Meta Data
Acceleration (MASS) technology that reduces physical data footprint by
up to 75%, while accelerating performance up to 7 times that of
traditional storage.
The ESG Lab Report found that the Tegile Zebi solution is simple to
configure and provision. It is easy to find relevant information about
storage resources using the Zebi Dashboard and Wizard. These
capabilities enabled ESG Lab to create and configure a pool, project and
LUNs with just a few clicks. Additionally, advanced storage
configurations (performance, deduplication and compression) were very
flexible and settable by project or LUN and the ability to select the
number of SSDs assigned to the project ensured that the array would
continue to perform optimally as the data set grows.
“ESG Lab testing determined that by selecting the appropriate
Application Profile, Tegile Zebi arrays optimize the use of SSD and HDD
to enhance IO or throughput performance,” said Brian Garrett, vice
president, ESG Lab. “Using the industry standard Iometer workload
generator to emulate real-world applications, ESG Lab also validated
that the Zebi array was able to provide excellent performance from a
very small pool of disks, while inline deduplication and compression had
almost no impact on application performance.”
Yellow Pages Agrees
“While planning our server virtualization implementation, it became
clear that we should include desktop virtualization as well,” said Ben
Croxton, IT director, Global Directories, the parent company of
U.S.-Yellow Pages. “Storage systems from incumbent vendors didn’t have
the performance we’d need over time as we grew. Of the several new
hybrid arrays we looked at, Tegile certainly had the most powerful
platform, the richest feature set and their entire team has been a
pleasure to work with.”
Additional highlights of the ESG Report include:
- Data reduction. An audit of
customer results confirmed Tegile’s claim of 75% data reduction for
common business applications and services.
- ESG Lab also validated that the Zebi array was able to provide
excellent performance from a very small pool of disks while inline
deduplication and compression had almost no impact on application
performance.
- The Zebi array’s ability to failover and failback completely
transparently between storage controllers was also validated, in
addition to the ability to reduce disk rebuild times dramatically using
Tegile's MASS technology.
