Catbird to Deliver Secure OpenStack Deployments in the Enterprise on HP Helion
Catbird, a leader in software-defined security, today announced that Catbird’s security suite is now fully certified for HP Helion OpenStack, offering customers’ confidence in joint product readiness and a unique security and compliance capability for large cloud deployments. Catbird’s security suite has been designated HP Helion Ready, joining a rapidly expanding ecosystem committed to speeding the adoption of OpenStack in the enterprise. Dasher Technologies, also an HP partner, provided infrastructure support and expertise in support of Catbird’s certification for HP Helion OpenStack and plans to offer the combined solution in its Cloud practice.

“HP has been a driving force behind OpenStack, and with HP Helion’s flexible delivery models including private, managed, and public clouds, they are an attractive partner to any organization transforming its IT infrastructure,” said Catbird CEO, David Keasey. “We are delighted to now be part of the HP Helion ecosystem. Through our software suite we can add an important security layer to HP Helion deployments. This layer of security complements existing perimeter security controls with so-called micro-segmentation. OpenStack clients can group their virtual assets into meaningful segments, typically by application or application tier, and put a security policy wrapper around each micro-segment. This in essence pushes the perimeter down to each application.”

“We don’t look at security as a barrier but rather as an enabler of cloud adoption,” said Kerry Bailey, senior vice president, HP Helion. “As enterprise IT leaders transform to agile internal service providers, they must balance their new role driving growth and speed-to-market, while also managing, controlling and securing massive growth in applications and data. Catbird gives IT the ability to provide consistency of automated policy deployment, continuous monitoring, and security policy enforcement across HP Helion OpenStack deployments. Dasher Technologies is a great example of a mutual partner that sees great benefits in the combined solution. Given the importance of security and control in the Cloud, we expect many more to adopt as well.”

“As part of the process to certify our software for HP Helion, we could count on one of HP’s top partners Dasher Technologies. They gave us access to their top-notch testing facility and their HP Helion expertise helped us get through the process quickly,” said Keasey. Dasher Technologies’ EVP of Technology, Chris Saso added, “We have been following Catbird for a while, and immediately agreed to assist in their certification process. We have heavily invested in launching our OpenStack solution practice over the last year and we see Catbird’s solution as a strong value-add to that ecosystem. In a dynamic cloud environment you need a solution that automates security policy orchestration and enforcement. Catbird has proven to deliver exactly that.”

Catbird’s software suite was designed from the ground up to provide visibility into and protection of private clouds and virtual data centers. Catbird Insight automatically and continuously discovers all assets in your virtual fabric, allows the grouping of these assets into logical Catbird TrustZones, and visualizes asset relationships and the east-west traffic flows between them for improved analytics. Catbird Secure enables automated enforcement of flexible security policies across Catbird TrustZones. The platform detects and alerts on potential security incidents, initiates corrective enforcement actions, and provides instant compliance reporting for major standards and mandates.
