ZaaS Market Penetration

As more and more IT professionals have increased comfort with cloud or "-aaS" adoption, we here at Zenoss have seen that play out with incredible growth of our Zenoss-as-a-Service (ZaaS) offering. We've seen on average 40 percent growth in this product line quarter over quarter, which furthermore speaks to the market's growing acceptance of the cloud for core IT functions as more IT leaders recognize the benefits and need for monitoring infrastructure from a cloud platform.

Because we started early, we understand what it means to successfully run production-monitoring platforms for tens of thousands - soon to be hundreds of thousands - of devices, and we can provide that experience as a service. We're able to rapidly deliver our new products, ZenPacks, and the latest security fixes to our customers so they can enjoy an innovative and secure monitoring solution with minimal or no disruption to operation.

For our ZaaS customers today, we're currently collecting 5 billion data points per day from hundreds of collectors spread all across the globe on every continent but Antarctica. Our global network operations center (NOC) oversees the health, administration and maintenance of both our cloud-based infrastructure and our fleet of appliances deployed on premises or in our customers' clouds. 

We are able to relieve the administrative burdens of managing and maintaining the platform and have our customers focus instead on the value-add of software-defined IT operations. As a result, we see higher customer satisfaction from ZaaS customers, faster time to value, and lower cost of ownership. We're able to reduce the hardware footprint required and compress deployments that would historically take weeks or months down to hours or days.

This has not only been valuable to our new clients, but it has been a great upgrade path to customers who have been with Zenoss for many years. In fact, a third of our ZaaS customers have migrated to the cloud from being deployed on premises - an exciting change that freed up these customers from having to worry about managing the platform and allowed them to be able to focus their energies on extracting value from their monitoring data set.

To paraphrase an old philosophical thought experiment, "If a monitoring platform events in your infrastructure and no one has the bandwidth to investigate it, are you really even monitoring?" To achieve the goals of a "lights-out data center" or be able to leverage the benefits of software-defined IT operations you have to be in a position to use the data you are gathering and not simply collecting noise.

It's an exciting time to be an IT professional. And even though we've been at the cloud monitoring game for years, we're only getting started as we continue to invest and push the boundaries in terms of how we scale in numbers of devices monitored, in the number of integrations supported, and the amount of data that we collect, process and correlate every second.
