The storage industry has just been put on notice. Publish your prices!
A company called StorONE recently announced something new that it calls, TRUprice. This is a tool being provided on their website that enables customers and resellers to create a turnkey enterprise storage system in just a few minutes. It provides, like its name suggests, true pricing (not list).
StorONE CEO, Gal Naor, put out a challenge to other storage array vendors to reveal their prices in public. “Storage is far too complicated and far too expensive,” he said. “With TRUprice, StorONE is the first storage vendor to publicly publish the price for a complete turnkey enterprise storage system. You don’t have to fill out a form or wait for a callback. At last, enterprise storage pricing is transparent for all to see!”
Why introduce this now? Naor says it’s 2020, and “the time for playing games with customers is over. Large public cloud providers have published the cost of their storage for several years. It is time for enterprise storage vendors to do the same. With TRUprice you can compare what you are paying for storage with our pricing, and with full transparency.”
StorONE’s S1 Enterprise Storage Platform is storage software designed with resource efficiency as its priority. It employs Total Resource Utilization (TRU) to derive maximum performance from the available storage media while using mid-range server hardware. But it’s been a challenge sometimes for customers to calculate the actual value of efficiency. The goal of TRUprice is to show customers, in real dollars, what efficient storage can deliver.
As an example, the 736TB TRUprice all-flash configuration runs on a mid-range server and uses only 128GBs of RAM yet delivers almost 1 million IOPS. It costs less than $342,000 and includes three years of hardware maintenance and software support!
According to the company, TRUprice proves how efficient storage software can deliver hundreds of thousands of IOPS using midrange server hardware, thereby saving customers at least tens of thousands of dollars. Customers can build an enterprise storage system and see how much money they save using StorONE S1. All of the configurations feature leading brand-name servers and media, such as HPE, Dell, SuperMicro, Seagate, and Western Digital. Each configuration includes their S1 storage software that delivers hundreds of thousands of IOPS and provides a complete set of data protection features. These added features enable customers to also drive down their investment in backup infrastructure, which is another way the company says it can help drive down the cost of IT infrastructure.
“With our HA, DirectWrite, vRAID, and S1:Snap, we can dramatically lower the year over year investment in backups,” explained Naor. “S1 also reduces disaster recovery costs. Most storage vendors require that you have an exact duplicate of your primary storage system at your DR site. StorONE S1 can replicate from anything to anything, which means you can have an all-flash array at your primary data center and a hard disk system at your DR site, dramatically lowering the cost of DR.”
The strategy at StorONE is to deliver the most efficient storage software on the market. To that end, the company says its software provides better performance using midrange servers than other vendor’s configurations using high-end servers. And they claim this efficiency represents an immediate and ongoing price advantage to their customers.
“We encourage customers to take our price analysis challenge,” said George Crump, StorONE’s Chief Marketing Officer. “They can come to our site, price out their exact solution and compare it to what they are paying now. In most cases, we are confident they will find that the 3-year TCO on our solution will be less than what they are paying for one year of maintenance with their current vendor.”
But don’t take their word for it. That’s the whole point of a transparent online pricing tool. Try it for yourself, just head over to the StorONE TRUprice website to use their three-year TCO pricing configurator, without having to register your details. Get instant prices after configuring a system’s server, availability, media, capacity and networking cards.
