As KubeCon + CloudNativeCon NA 2025 approaches in Atlanta, the cloud infrastructure landscape continues to evolve with developers seeking alternatives that prioritize transparency, open standards, and freedom from vendor lock-in. OVHcloud, a provider that builds and operates its own infrastructure from servers to data centers, is bringing its developer-first approach to the event with a focus on cost predictability and open-source interoperability. Operating over 450,000 servers across 44 data centers on four continents, the company serves 1.6 million customers worldwide with a unique value proposition: vertical integration without the hidden egress fees and pricing surprises that often plague multi-cloud deployments.
At this year’s KubeCon, OVHcloud will showcase its expanding ecosystem of Kubernetes and AI solutions, including its Managed Kubernetes Service, Managed Private Registry based on Harbor, and the newly launched OVHcloud AI Solutions suite. Jeffrey Gregor, General Manager of OVHcloud US, sat down with VMblog to discuss how the company’s infrastructure ownership model translates to real-world impact—from enabling The Human Insight Project to scale medical AI globally, to supporting developers with edge computing through 35+ Local Zones and on-premises cloud platforms. With developer advocate Aurélie Vache leading three community sessions and giving away over 100 signed copies of her book “Understanding Kubernetes in a Visual Way,” OVHcloud is making its case for what it calls “reversible” cloud infrastructure built on the principle that technology should remain open and in users’ hands.
If you’re attending KubeCon NA 2025, make sure to get OVHcloud at the top of your MUST SEE list.
VMblog: Can you start by introducing OVHcloud and what sets your technology apart?
Gregor: At OVHcloud, we build and run our own infrastructure – from the servers to the data centers to the network that connects them. That vertical integration lets us deliver real performance while keeping pricing transparent and predictable.
We operate more than 450,000 servers in 44 data centers across 4 continents, serving 1.6 million customers in over 140 countries. Because we control the full stack, our users get the flexibility to build on open standards, without vendor lock-in or hidden egress fees.
Our focus is simple: giving builders, developers, and businesses the ability to deploy workloads on their own terms – whether they’re modernizing legacy apps, scaling AI models, or running containers at the edge.
VMblog: For a KubeCon attendee, what problems do you help solve?
Gregor: Many developers struggle with cost predictability, interoperability, and the complexity of multi-cloud setups. At KubeCon 2025, we’re showing how our Managed Kubernetes Service and Managed Private Registry (Harbor) simplify those challenges and make Kubernetes easier to use at scale.
You’ll also see our developer advocate, Aurélie Vache, lead three community sessions – one on visualizing Kyverno policies, another interactive container-security trivia game built around open-source tools like SBOM, SigStore, and OpenSSF, and a third lightning talk on understanding Kubernetes in a visual way.
And in the true open-source spirit, we’re giving away over 100 signed copies of Aurélie’s book, Understanding Kubernetes in a Visual Way.
VMblog: Can you share a real-world example of your technology’s impact?
Gregor: The Human Insight Project (THI.AI) uses OVHcloud Public Cloud to bring trusted medical knowledge to doctors and students around the world. Their AI platform can now process roughly ten times more queries on OVHcloud than before, providing concise, verified answers from global sources.
For them, performance and cost control were critical. Running on OVHcloud lets them scale globally, keep operations sustainable, and stay true to their mission of making information accessible to everyone.
VMblog: How do you differentiate from other vendors at KubeCon?
Gregor: We design, build, and operate everything ourselves – no middle layers. That vertical model gives users transparency over cost and configuration. Owning our network means no egress fees and price performance without hidden fees worldwide.
Everything we offer is based on open standards and built to be reversible. If you can run Kubernetes elsewhere, you can run it here. It’s your data, your infrastructure, your rules.
VMblog: Can you take us deeper into the solutions you’ll highlight at your booth?
Gregor: This year we launched OVHcloud AI Solutions – a full ecosystem that helps data scientists and ML engineers move from concept to production quickly.
The suite includes AI Notebooks, AI Training, and AI Deploy all built on Kubernetes for flexibility and scalability. It’s designed for builders: open, modular, and cost-transparent.
We also support multiple Kubernetes deployment models – Managed Kubernetes Service, VCF on VMware, NKP on Nutanix, and Bare Metal – so teams can choose the balance of control and simplicity that fits their environment.
VMblog: What trends are shaping 2025 and beyond?
Gregor: Developers want simpler platforms and more accessible compute, especially for AI. The combination of PaaS and GPUs is making that possible.
We’ve expanded with 35+ Local Zones for edge and hybrid scenarios, using the gridscale acquisition to deploy closer to users. Our new On-prem Cloud Platform (OPCP) brings cloud services – like managed Kubernetes and AI tools – directly into customer data centers, even offline or in sovereign environments.
Our roadmap continues toward more hybrid and sovereign cloud options, deeper open-source integration, and broader GPU availability to support the next generation of AI applications.
VMblog: What message do you want attendees to take away from KubeCon?
Gregor: OVHcloud was built on the belief that technology should stay open and in the hands of its users. We don’t hide how our infrastructure works; we share it, improve it together, and contribute back to the open-source projects that make it possible – Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and many others.
When you build on OVHcloud, you keep freedom of choice – to move, to scale, to innovate – without compromise. That’s the kind of cloud we’d want to use ourselves.
VMblog: How can our audience see your product in action?
Gregor: You can explore our Managed Kubernetes and AI Solutions anytime at us.ovhcloud.com, or visit us at our KubeCon 2025 booth #1043 to see them in action.
