Tonkean announced that it has made proactive AI agents generally available. These are autonomous agents that can act before being asked-which better equips them to prevent problems, capture hidden savings, and supercharge capacity. They empower enterprise teams to shift from reactive firefighting to proactive value creation, finally fulfilling AI’s initial promise to change the way we work for the better.

All Tonkean customers can now deploy pre-built proactive AI agents as well as build their own proactive AI agents quickly and easily using Tonkean’s no-code agent builder.

Powered by Tonkean’s agentic orchestration platform, which is designed to help large organizations safely manage-or “orchestrate”-AI agents across their organization, the potential of proactive AI agents to transform back-office work is massive. Procurement, legal, HR, IT, and other enterprise teams can now deploy agents that act independently-preventing problems, capturing opportunities, and handling complex workflows without waiting for human commands.

“Proactivity in back-office AI agents is a capability that all AI agent vendors promise, but that few actually provide,” says Tonkean co-founder and CEO Sagi Eliyahu. “Most agents’ you see are just chatbots waiting for commands in chat windows. Real AI agents should work more like networked colleagues-that is, intelligently, autonomously, and, yes, proactively. This is how the best coding agents already operate. It’s beyond time we bring such functionality to enterprise G&A. That’s what Tonkean proactive AI agents do.”

Using Tonkean’s fully integrated, enterprise-grade orchestration technology-which in addition to connecting every tool and team inside your organization, allows you to set guardrails for what AI agents can and cannot do-Tonkean’s proactive AI agents are capable of taking on and completing complex work across organizations on their own. Instead of waiting for human triggers, these agents continuously monitor data and events across systems (ERP, P2P, CLM, HRIS, etc.), identify when tasks should start, and autonomously move work forward.

The impact of implementing proactive AI agents inside the enterprise are manifold:

  • Achieve the multiplier effect AI promises. Deploy unlimited proactive agents that execute complex workflows autonomously without waiting for your command. Reactive agents need constant direction. Proactive agents identify what needs doing and do it, handling hundreds of contracts, thousands of invoices, and countless processes in parallel-looping in humans only when human input is required. Stop managing tasks, start driving strategy, and achieve the operational leverage of a team 10x your size.
  • Elevate the quality of outcomes through autonomous execution. Proactive agents don’t just complete tasks-they complete them better. They execute every step fastidiously, perform the extra research humans skip when rushed, and prepare comprehensive analyses before you even know you need them. The Tonkean Renewals Agent exemplifies this-not just flagging renewals, but researching alternatives, building RFQs, scoring vendors, and preparing negotiations months in advance. This leads to higher quality decisions, better prepared negotiations, and superior business outcomes.
  • Transform from reactive scrambling to proactive excellence. Nothing falls through the cracks when agents monitor continuously and act independently. But this isn’t just about catching what you might miss-it’s about optimal timing and preparation that reactive approaches can never achieve. Identify risks before they materialize, surface opportunities while they’re still actionable, and enter every negotiation fully prepared rather than scrambling at deadlines. Turn every fire drill into a strategic advantage.
  • Build custom agents yourself, no code required. Your subject-matter experts know exactly which processes drain time and hide opportunity. Now they can fix them directly, building proactive agents in minutes using visual tools-no coding, no IT tickets, no consultants. The procurement team creates spend trackers, legal builds compliance auditing agents, and finance deploys invoice processors. When policies change or new needs emerge, update your agents immediately.

Proactive capabilities have been a part of the Tonkean offering for some time. Earlier this year, Tonkean released its agentic orchestration capabilities for enterprise back-office teams. It proved a game-changer for Tonkean customers. But those early implementations also produced important learnings. One was that AI agents prove most transformational for organizations when used outside chat interfaces. That is, when they’re empowered to monitor data sources, operate in the background, and take on new responsibilities proactively-without awaiting initiation from a human inside a chat window.

A few examples of such pre-built agents available inside Tonkean now include:

  • Renewals Agent. Proactively manages the entire renewal lifecycle-monitoring existing contracts, identifying consolidation and negotiation opportunities, and determining which subsequent execution processes to trigger on its own. All so that you can turn renewals into a proactive cost optimization engine.
  • Third-Party Risk Agent. Attentively safeguards against risk through persistent monitoring and research. If a vendor is suddenly flagged in external databases (e.g., lawsuit, sanctions list, bad press), this agent launches a review before the next procurement cycle, proactively prepares supplementary documentation and analysis, suggests alternative courses of action, and more.
  • Spend Anomaly Agent. Continuously monitors transaction patterns; if it detects a vendor invoice higher than usual or split charges just below approval thresholds, it kicks off a review, prepares supplementary materials detailing history of the account, finds relevant stakeholders and impacted employees, suggests alternative vendors, and more.

Making proactive end-to-end agents available to enterprise G&A teams marks a seminal moment in the evolution of Agentic AI. “It’s time to unshackle ourselves from chat,” says Eliyahu. “Proactivity should be a capability all enterprise G&A teams demand out of their AI agents moving forward.”
