Use CloudSecOps to Protect in Real-Time in 2024
By Or Shoshani, Co-Founder and CEO, Stream.Security
The shift to cloud technology has catalyzed many advancements in the technology landscape. Globally, organizations are shifting from on-premise infrastructure, favoring cloud solutions that provide flexibility and scalability. While this movement provides organizations with more efficiency and collaboration, it has also brought unique security challenges.
In 2024, we anticipate seeing increased focus on improving cloud solutions’ productivity and functionality. Many organizations use cloud computing tools because they help them remain economical, scalable, and reliable. Cloud services were estimated to grow 21.7% in 2023, and 80% of organizations have invested more than $1.2 million annually in the cloud.
Though growth in the cloud space is clear, sensitive data in the cloud presents concerns about unauthorized access, data breaches, and other cyber threats making cloud security a critical solution to protect digital assets. Using cloud security solutions is imperative to protecting confidential information and safeguarding cloud-based operations, creating a balance between security protocols and improved productivity.
As 2023 ends, we’re already seeing businesses adopting technology to diagnose and detect threats to their cloud infrastructure before they occur, testing resolutions in a controlled environment to direct their incident response abilities. Traditional reactive approaches remain crucial, while cloud security solutions provide progressive strategies that anticipate and mitigate potential threats.
Going into 2024, we only expect to see even greater integration of cloud security technology, including artificial intelligence (AI). Simply responding to breaches post-mortem is a limitation that can be resolved by investing in cloud security platforms that utilize predictive analytics, threat intelligence, and anomaly detection. These capabilities detect patterns in user behaviors and network activities in real-time, monitoring for indicators of security breaches that make it easier for organizations to prevent or mitigate threats before they escalate. The transition into proactive security investments illustrates organizations’ understanding of the need to safeguard data in these complex cloud infrastructures.
Cloud Security Operations (CloudSecOps) technology is a prime example of this understanding. With this technology, organizations have a multitude of benefits, including:
- Real-Time Threat Detection and Response:CloudSecOps uses real-time monitoring and evaluation of cloud infrastructure, allowing organizations to quickly detect and respond to threats, reducing the effect these incidents have and lowering the risk of a data breach.
- Scalability and Flexibility:CloudSecOps solutions are built to scale with cloud environments, meaning they quickly adapt to expansions in cloud infrastructure to provide constant threat protection without impacting performance.
- Automation for Efficiency:CloudSecOps streamlines security processes using automation, reducing human error by enhancing efficiency and providing a more reliable and consistent security posture.
- Compliance Management:CloudSecOps is critical to following regulatory compliance requirements. Continuous monitoring and enforcement efforts meet industry standards and legal obligations to reduce consequences.
- Cost-Efficiency and Resource Optimization:Using CloudSecOps allows organizations to optimize resource allocation. Targeting areas of heightened risk enhances security posture and is cost-effective as it allocates resources and reduces expenses.
In the coming year, we also expect to see organizations work to close the disconnect between their DevOps and Security teams. CloudSecOps supports security postures, improves operational efficiency, makes it easier to adhere to compliance requirements, and allocates resources to save money and focus on critical areas needing security. Investing in CloudSecOps is a strategy that ensures sensitive data is protected while remaining resilient and adaptable to grow as cloud technology evolves.
By empowering these teams to work more cohesively, companies will have an easier time ensuring that applications and data are protected from security threats and vulnerabilities. Instead of looking within the “inside” of cloud infrastructure, DevOps and security teams must work together to secure the border guarding each system. By doing so, organizations can maintain a robust in-house DevSecOps cybersecurity program that helps them react to incidents intelligently within minutes based on the uniqueness of each environment.
