Intel Corporation announced on Tuesday its move to launch a new platform — vPro during the second quarter this year, that promises to change the way desktops function in a distributed environment.
Targeted at businesses and enterprise users, it combines the features of a processor and IT management, and builds security in the same platform. Overall, it effectively changes the brand positioning of Intel from being a semiconductor manufacturer to a technology solution provider.
Mr Amar Babu, Managing Director of Intel Technology India, said, "Like the Intel Centrino mobile technology, which changed laptops, Intel vPro brings together innovations in its processors, chipsets, networking technologies and software."

It is estimated that about 85 per cent of the overall costs go to IT management, which is a nightmare for technology managers. The vPro-based technology helps in such a situation. Most of the security breaches are on a specific PC and this gets populated.

Mr Babu said that this was not in response to AMD's new processors, but something the company was working over the years in partnership with other technology players.
