SWsoft Announces Industry's First Combined Virtualization Management

From the press release:

SWsoft, maker of the award-winning Virtuozzo operating system-level virtualization software, today announced its strategic vision to provide IT organizations with the tools to manage other virtualized computer resources from additional vendors.

All future releases of SWsoft's Virtuozzo management tools will include support for other vendors' virtualization solutions, including VMware virtual servers – giving data center managers unprecedented control of virtualized resources and enabling them to use various virtualization technologies without being tied to a single vendor's management tools.

"The benefits of server virtualization in the enterprise data center have been clearly established," said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of SWsoft. "Now, with different types of virtualization meeting different needs, IT managers require tools to be vendor agnostic and have the capability to manage different virtualization technologies. Previously, all technologies were separate with different management interfaces, often causing organizations to standardize on a single technology that does not meet all of its virtualization needs. SWsoft wants to be the best option for IT departments seeking to maximize the benefit gained through virtualized resources."

SWsoft will introduce its first wave of support of another technology later this year with VMware virtual machine management. Xen and other technologies will soon follow.
"The core virtualization function is an increasingly important part of the enterprise data center," said Tom Bittman, Vice President and Gartner Fellow at Gartner Research. "Looking ahead, the key necessity in the data center is tools that effectively manage IT assets, including virtual servers."

Virtualization Efficiency and Manageability

Virtualization technology has the ability to increase data center density many times. By consolidating tens, or hundreds of virtual environments on one physical server, IT managers can reduce hardware costs, while increasing utilization. The ability to effectively manage and automate a growing catalog of virtual assets ensures that complexity is reduced and that virtualization delivers cost savings.

With Virtuozzo operating system (OS)-level server virtualization technology, a single Linux or Windows OS instance can be dynamically partitioned into multiple, highly-efficient virtual environments. The low overhead of Virtuozzo allows for demanding workloads such as database and application servers to run inside virtual environments with near-native performance and scalability.

Also, Virtuozzo is the first and only virtualization technology that addresses the challenge faced by today’s datacenters of operating systems sprawl where a number of different operating systems require support, maintenance and updating. Overall, Virtuozzo provides efficiency and manageability that result in the lowest total cost-of-ownership and fastest ROI for customers.
