Web hosting provider Verio (http://www.verio.com) has launched a Linux Virtual Private Server service, the company announced recently. The new service is designed to “extend VPS services to Linux developer and small business communities”.
Verio’s Virtual Private Server (VPS) service will run Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 4 and be available to customers and reseller partners in the fourth quarter of 2006. The new solution will utilize a virtualized managed Linux environment and partitioning technology to enable customers to “take advantage of a full suite of managed services, account controls and applications, operating independently in the Linux environment, and at a competitive cost”.
"Verio made the decision to offer a Linux-based Web hosting solution, based on feedback from developers and other customers requiring solutions-oriented product offerings running on the Linux operating system," suggested Heather Boyer, Director of Product Management for Verio. "Linux VPS is one of the results of over a decade of enhancements and refinements to virtualization technology. Verio's VPS has always provided a solution for customers who need to do more than just host a simple Web site, such as create a custom development environment or host a corporate intranet or email system. This extension of VPS to the Linux operating system will provide our customers and resellers another option and more hosting choices."
