Parallels Announces Workstation 2.2 Release Candidate

Parallels Workstation 2.2 Release Candidate Runs Windows Vista, Strengthens Support for Intel and AMD Virtualization Technologies

Parallels has launched the Release Candidate for Parallels Workstation 2.2 for Windows and Linux, which delivers faster performance, better OS stability and stronger virtual machine isolation than previous versions.

Parallels Workstation enables users to simultaneously run any version of Windows, including Beta and RC builds of Windows Vista, any Linux distribution, Solaris, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, OS/2, eComStation or DOS, in a stable, secure virtual machine on any computer running Windows 2000, XP or 2003, or any version of Linux. No re-booting or partitioning is required, and users never need to shut down or leave their home desktop to access a virtual machine.

Parallels Workstation 2.2 RC offers a number of key improvements:

  • Guest OS support for Windows Vista Beta1, Beta2, and RC1
  • Stronger support for Intel Virtualization Technology and AMD Secure Virtual Machine Technology (SVM). These technologies drive superior virtual machine performance and stability.
  • Improved USB support, including stronger support for isochronous and Windows Mobile 2005 USB devices
  • Faster, smoother Shared Folders utility

A complete list of new features and upgrades is available at www.parallels.com/en/products/workstation/update

«Using Parallels Workstation 2.2 to run Windows Vista in a safe, stable, secure virtual environment is a great opportunity for all PC users, especially corporations evaluating Vista for large-scale deployment,» said Benjamin Rudolph, Marketing Manager, Parallels. «Now, users can explore Vista, experiment with different configurations, and test software and hardware compatibility, without having to compromise the stability or usability of any of their desktop computers.»

New, as well as current, Parallels users can download and evaluate the RC version for free at www.parallels.com/en/download/workstation/update. Current users should note that after installing Parallels Workstation 2.2 RC, they will not need to re-install their guest operating system or their applications.

Full versions of the product can be purchased at www.parallels.com/en/buyonline. The Suggested Retail Price (SRP) for Parallels Workstation is $49.99.

Parallels welcomes user feedback, comments, questions, bug reports and feature requests, which can be submitted to the Parallels Support Team at www.parallels.com/en/support/p,6/ or via e-mail to beta@parallels.com.

As with all release updates, current Parallels customers will be upgraded automatically to the final release version of Parallels Workstation 2.2 at no charge. The final release of Parallels Workstation 2.2 is expected to be available in the next several weeks.
