Emulex Corporation, a provider of storage networking connectivity solutions, announced that its LightPulse family of 4 Gb/s HBAs demonstrates outstanding performance for business-critical, real-world I/O workloads within AMD Opteron processor-based systems. Emulex 4 Gb/s HBAs running in conjunction with AMD Opteron processors provide as much as a 78 percent performance advantage across a range of I/O workload requests when compared with competitive offerings. Emulex, in cooperation with AMD, has conducted extensive performance testing using real world workloads. For more information on Emulex 4 Gb/s HBA performance advantages, visit

Emulex has worked closely with AMD to promote interoperability of Emulex HBAs and AMD Opteron processors, providing customers with robust, high-performance configurations for the newest wave of advanced applications, including transactional databases, virtualized environments and continuous data protection. The AMD Opteron processor is now tested and approved within Emulex's Interoperability Partner Program. Emulex HBAs and AMD Opteron processors are integrated into server platforms from leading vendors including Sun, IBM and HP, and together provide the building blocks that large enterprises require for operating data-intensive environments.

"The capabilities of the AMD Opteron processor exemplify our commitment to deliver exceptional performance and performance-per-watt to the market," said Pat Patla, director, Server/Workstation Marketing, AMD. "The combination of AMD Opteron processors and Emulex SAN connectivity solutions ensures that customers have access to performance-driven solutions that are designed to deliver tremendous advantages for today's enterprise computing environments."

Additionally, Emulex is working with AMD to develop solutions around next-generation products, such as those optimized for server virtualization environments. Emulex's generally available LightPulse Virtual HBA technology is designed to complement the virtualization capabilities of the next-generation AMD Opteron processor.

"The high-performance combination of Emulex's flexible and reliable 4 Gb/s HBAs with the AMD Opteron processor delivers unique and compelling benefits to our customers who require high levels of performance," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex. "Working with AMD to deliver industry-leading, high-performance solutions also ensures support for next-generation technology innovation, such as server virtualization."
