StoreAge Networking Technologies, the leading provider of split-path SAN storage management and advanced multi-tiered, data protection solutions, today announced that it is providing virtualization and data protection software to McDATA Corporation for use in its new Application Services Module (ASM). The OEM agreement enables McDATA to offer advanced virtualization and data protection storage applications through the module. The entire suite of StoreAge management and data protection software, including multiView (low-capacity snapshots), multiCopy (full-sized clones), multiMigrate (online data migration), and multiMirror (local/remote, synchronous/asynchronous mirroring) will be made available to McDATA customers.
The McDATA ASM running StoreAge applications enables storage administrators to move these powerful applications to the fabric and take advantage of a common, heterogeneous set of data management and data protection tools. “As a ‘StoreAge-Enabled’ partner, McDATA has combined its highly-available, high-performance ASM with StoreAge’s industry-leading suite of software to provide users with enterprise-class fabric services that can scale from the mid-range to the enterprise,” said Mark Spowart, president of StoreAge Networking Technologies.
“McDATA and StoreAge understand that customers want more options for easier data access,” said Todd Oseth, COO of McDATA Corporation. “That’s why the McDATA ASM has an open API that we share with all and is a platform that supports truly integrated solutions like the proven virtualization offering we have through StoreAge.”
Leveraging StoreAge’s split-path architecture, the McDATA ASM separates the control path from the management path to provide extremely high performance and scalability without creating single-points-of-failure. The McDATA Virtualizer is a fully integrated fabric-based storage virtualization solution. Unlike other solutions, McDATA Virtualizer is completely integrated and performs to enterprise class requirements.
“McDATA’s announcement of adding StoreAge functionality into their ASM is an important milestone in the evolution of fabric-based, intelligent storage services,” said Enterprise Strategy Group Analyst Brian Garrett. “Advanced storage applications such as volume management, snapshot, replication and mirroring are moving from servers and storage arrays and into the fabric. ESG Research indicates that early adopters have realized tangible benefits and significant savings.”
