XenSource to Kick-Off Global Virtualization Initiative
XenSource, Inc., the leader in infrastructure virtualization solutions based on the open source Xen™ hypervisor, today announced Simply Virtualize, a global campaign including a webcast and series of global events the company is producing with IBM and Intel. Forrester VP Frank Gillett will keynote the webcast on March 20, 2007. Following the webcast, eighteen virtualization seminars will be held around the globe, taking place between March 22 and May 25, and focusing on teaching attendees how to minimize the cost and complexity of Windows and Linux server consolidation.

"Adoption of server virtualization has accelerated dramatically in North America since 2005, with 51% of enterprises now using or piloting the technology," stated Frank Gillett, VP of Forrester, in the recently released research report titled Server Virtualization Accelerates in North America. "The rapid adoption of server virtualization can be attributed to its near- and long-term advantages, which allow firms to reduce costs while making their infrastructures more flexible over time."*

Advances in hardware and software virtualization, as well as integrated technology solutions such as the IBM System x server bundled with the XenEnterprise solution, have removed common barriers to server consolidation such as cost and complexity. In his presentation, Gillett will cover the benefits of server consolidation, findings from a recent virtualization adoption study conducted by Forrester, and how companies can get started today. In addition, executives from Intel and XenSource will present in the webcast. The seminar series will feature presentations with executives from IBM and XenSource, and a networking session with live product demonstrations on Intel® Xeon® Processor-based platforms with Intel® Virtualization technology, and an IBM System x platform.

"Intel has been working with the open source community on enhancing and optimizing the Xen code base to take advantage of Intel® Virtualization Technology and other platform features to run unmodified guests on the Xen hypervisor," said Ram Peddibhotla, Director of Open Source Technology Center, Intel Corporation. "We are pleased to see XenEnterprise enabled on Multi-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5000 Sequence based platforms -- this combination offers our customers great performance headroom supporting both Windows and Linux and fulfills a wide variety of enterprise I.T. needs."

"Simply Virtualize is a great way for IT users to learn about virtualization as a way to reduce cost and improve IT agility," said John Bara, VP Marketing at XenSource. "Together, IBM, Intel and XenSource deliver easy-to-use, high-performance and affordably virtualization solutions."
