An increased interest in virtualisation at the application layer has led GLiNTECH, a professional IT services consultancy to appoint South African, Gerhard Diedericks as their newest principal consultant.

Having built up an expertise in South Africa through advising the banking, insurance and investment industries on the use of grid computing solutions – a form of application virtualisation, Diedericks has been appointed to head up GLiNTECH’s newly developed, end-to-end virtualisation solution offering.

“What’s unique about GLiNTECH’s virtualisation competency is that it offers a complete solution for their client’s virtualisation roadmap. Australian companies are already benefiting from infrastructure virtualisation solutions such as VMWare & Xen but are increasingly looking at new ways to extend these benefits in other areas, such as application and data virtualisation - the next logical steps in the virtualisation journey” says Diedericks.

He continues that, “The emerging technology of application virtualisation which has the ability to wrap existing applications in “self reliant containers”, thereby severing the applications traditional OS and hardware dependencies, is going to have a dramatic effect on traditional IT architectures and will prove to be a disruptive technology trend.”

The benefits of application virtualisation solutions are quite simple; they release software applications from their traditional, underlying operating system and hardware constraints, thereby increasing application performance, scalability and enable a ‘capacity on demand’ service model.

Dimitri Spyridopoulos, Managing Director says, “Gerhard’s experience in the various layers of the virtualisation stack directly contributes to GLiNTECH’s innovative capabilities and solutions offerings, complementing our ability to deliver immediately recognisable ROI to our clients.

Diedericks added, “GLiNTECH is leading an exciting new phase in virtualisation solutions within Australia. I look forward to the challenge of increasing new opportunities within the Australian market.”
