Egenera Inc., the data center virtualization company, today announced that the Egenera BladeFrame system achieved top performance results on the two-tier SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) Standard Application Benchmark. The testing was performed using Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2005 on Quad-Core and Dual-Core Intel Xeon two-processor and four-processor Egenera Processing Blade (pBlade) modules on the latest SAP ERP Release 6.0. These top performance results demonstrate the power and scalability of Egenera systems for users of SAP applications and large-scale enterprise deployments. The testing was completed in cooperation with Fujitsu Siemens Computers at Egenera's SAP Competence Center in Walldorf, Germany.
Together with the powerful data center virtualization capabilities inherent in Egenera's Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture, the SAP-certified benchmark results demonstrate the robust capabilities of Egenera systems within SAP solution-based environments. With the PAN architecture, new services and applications are deployed rapidly, and managed and scaled seamlessly, making Egenera an ideal platform for enterprise Service Oriented Architecture (eSOA) implementations. Running SAP applications on the Egenera system dramatically reduces complexity in the data center and maximizes the availability, manageability, scalability and performance of the complete SAP solution-based infrastructure.
Proven Performance
- The Egenera BladeFrame system using Processing Blade modules based on the new two-processor Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor x5355 2.66 GHz running the SAP ERP Release 6.0 application achieved a top result of 1,860 SD users and 9,400 SAPS, outperforming both HP (1,841 SD users; 9,230 SAPS) and IBM (1,850 SD users; 9,270 SAPS) on the same configuration.
- The Egenera BladeFrame system using processing blades based on the four-processor Dual-Core Intel Xeon 7140M 3.4 GHz processor achieved an excellent 2,000 SAP SD Benchmark users and 10,030 SAPS.
"We're pleased that the certified benchmark results further help confirm our leadership as an ideal platform for enterprise deployments of SAP applications," said Susan Davis, vice president at Egenera. "The combination of Intel and Egenera technology continues to deliver real, measurable value to customers who need high levels of performance, availability and scalability. In addition, Egenera's leadership in the virtualization of data center infrastructure provides unmatched flexibility and agility for forward-thinking enterprises."
"These excellent results demonstrate that combining the Egenera PAN architecture with our leading Quad-Core and Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors provides greater performance, fewer cooling challenges and cost savings when replacing legacy infrastructure," said Jake Smith, server marketing manager at Intel. "Customers can run more applications, with better performance and a smaller footprint."
The benchmark results referenced are current as of June 26, 2007. They fully comply with the SAP Benchmark Council regulations and have been audited and certified by SAP AG. Details can be obtained from Egenera and SAP AG. For the latest SAP results, visit www.sap.com/benchmark.
