Arkeia Software Strengthens Support for VMware
Arkeia Software, the leading provider of powerful, innovative data protection solutions, announced today a new partnership with VMware (NYSE:EMC), the global leader in virtual infrastructure software for industry standard systems.

As part of the partnership, VMwares Web site will feature a virtual appliance running Arkeia Network Backup version 6.0, an enterprise class backup solution enabling backup to heterogeneous operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX, Novell Netware, Mac OS, and BSD). In addition, Arkeia Software will provide VMware customers with special virtual client bundling pricing to ensure cost effectiveness.

Companies continue to virtualize their environments at an outstanding pace, said Philippe Breider, development manager of Arkeia Software. Arkeia Network Backup software combined with VMware infrastructure allows flexibility and cost control while maintaining robust and proven data protection.

Arkeia Network Backup enables VMware infrastructures to backup in many ways including at a host level for DR plans, and through backup agents installed inside the Virtual Machines. Arkeia Network Backup is also compatible with Consolidated Backup provided by VMware.

The virtual appliance featuring Arkeia Network Backup version 6.0 includes:

  • Advanced SAN Support - Media Server for SAN (MSS) option enables LAN-free backup for SAN environments. MSS will help to ease network congestion, allow dynamic sharing of SAN attached storage devices and will optimize SAN investments by allowing direct SAN connectivity of servers with critical data and of storage devices such as tape libraries.
  • Remote Drive Management - Remote Drive Management (RDM) for LANs and WANs to centralize the management of remote servers & networks and to consolidate and share drives across the LAN. RDM also features enhanced support for remote/stand alone Windows servers.
  • Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape - Innovative Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape (D2D2T) option to shorten backup and restore times and to create granular tiered storage policies.
  • Virtual Tape Library Integrated Virtual Tape Library (VTL) option to leverage the performance and flexibility of disk technology, with 1 TB of disk storage included.
