AppStream Launches New Editions of its Award-Winning Application Streaming Technology
AppStream, Inc., a leader in on-demand application deployment and management, announced today version 5.2.2 of its award-winning and patented streaming technology.  Available immediately, AppStream 5.2.2 comes in two versions, AppStream 5.2.2 Enterprise edition and AppStream 5.2.2 SaaS edition.

The 5.2.2 SaaS edition allows software vendors to quickly convert any existing Windows® application to an Internet based services model without modifying the application, thereby getting the software to users in days versus months and providing many of the benefits of web-native applications.

“Companies like AppStream that have a history and core competency in streaming technology are enabling some dramatic changes in the way software is delivered.  The two new editions are great examples of mature, robust streaming technology, in action and put to good use.  Software companies like Citrix and Microsoft have even recently embraced their own versions of streaming technology to deliver their software on-demand.  It won’t be long before the vision of on-demand is a reality, in large part, thanks to streaming,” says Andi Mann, senior analyst, enterprise management associates.

“Application streaming, such as in AppStream 5.2.2 technology, combined with Intel® vPro™ and Intel® Centrino® Pro processor technology shows great promise in managing applications and desktop PCs,” said Dr. Charles Brown, manager, Intel SaaS Program Digital Enterprise Group. “This combination of technologies will help Intel customers quickly deploy notebook and desktop PCs, and reach their manageability objectives.”

About AppStream 5.2.2
Based on patented streaming technology, AppStream 5.2.2 is an on-demand application distribution and license management platform.  This technique known as application streaming, delivers application bits on demand, and ensures the application behaves as if it were installed using conventional methods, such as a CD ROM install.  IT costs and labor associated with distributing and managing software is significantly reduced.  Additionally, AppStream serves as an automated license management platform which enforces license compliance, helps IT administrators prevent piracy and optimizes the use of software assets.  Key features include:

Enterprise Edition:

  • Support for Windows® Vista
  • WAN Optimizer option with proxy caching
  • Enhanced LDAP/Active Directory support
  • SDKs available for both client and server customization
  • License tracking for streamed and conventionally installed applications
  • Enhanced support for virtualization solutions like Altiris SVS
  • True MSI streaming
  • Firefox support
  • Pre-population of icons and packages

SaaS Edition:

  • APIs to allow for integration with ISV’s website
  • Subscription management

“The release of the 5.2.2 version represents a significant milestone in our continued vision for delivering the industry leading application streaming platform,” said Brad Rowland, vice president of marketing, AppStream.  “The list of major enhancements in this release was driven by the needs of some of our largest customers and fills significant gaps in incumbent systems.  The 5.2 platform not only scales from SMB to global enterprise, but has now been proven as a delivery system for desktop applications to unmanaged consumer PC’s on the internet and the extended enterprise. We are committed to delivering industry leading technology and supporting innovative customers who are pushing ahead to solve real issues today, with compelling solutions for affordable and reliable application delivery.”
